Thanks Juniper. She is such a nice lady, we met on the internet through a Patchwork and Quilting site, and although she is quite a bit older than me, we get on like a house on fire. She says her arms and legs are not affected, but her speech is a bit awful. I expect that will come back, but she's scared. sad.gif

That seemed to happen to me every time I had to move house as a student. Of course these days I'm much more sensible - I don't move house very often!

Managed to sprain my ankle rather badly on Saturday evening. Walking back from festival in park, the path wasn't very well lit and there was a rather deep dip in it I didn't see.

It's rather bruised and painful (though definitely better than it was yesterday) and I've had to take today off as I was rather immobile this morning.

Oh well, could be worse - at least i didn't break it.

I went into school today to fetch some books. Because it is holiday time the gates were closed but as the lycée building is being used as a holiday centre for hadicapped people they are not locked. On the side of the primary school were three swallows nests. Two were not used this year but the third has been used by a pair of swallows and they were rearing their second family when we broke up.

I found to my horror and disgust that the three nests have been vandalised. At the foot of the wall lay one dead swallow surrounded by the smashed remnants of its nest and eggs. It was all I could do not to cry. I was upset and very very angry.

Before the end of term I caught three very small boys throwing stones at the nests. They were much too small for the stones tpo reach that high but I gave them a good taliking to and explained how precious our swallows are. I took the opportunity to explain to the rest of the school that we should be proud to have these little birds nesting on our building. I really don't think any of our children would have come back into school during the holidays to vandalise the birds. I think it was probably done by outsiders. There is an estate opposite the school where some very unruly street- roaming youngsters live.

The sad thing is that there are fewer and fewer swallows and only a few days ago I saw a person who was a complete stranger to me watching the swallows who had built on the side of the supermarket. She was smiling at them and I spoke to her and said how nice it was to see them there and she agreed. So somehow it seemed ieven sadder that some thoughtless, cruel person(s) had deliberately destroyed the birds that some of us love to see.

Oh no Aquarelle that's awful ohmy.gif
We have the same situation with some swans on the canal. We are trying to keep an eye on them and their babies but it's so heartbreaking.
This sort of behaviour I do not understand.
My neighbour was trying to cut down his side of my tree the other day and even when I told him birds were nesting and he couldn't, he just laughed and said he didn't care. I ended up with the phone in one hand and my camera in the other saying I'd call the council (his is a council house!)...believe it or not it worked!

Aquarelle - that is really horrible and upsetting. We see fewer and fewer summer visitors like swallows and swifts every year in the UK - at least it seems that way. How sad that someone would deliberately destroy them. Mindless. Aaaargh.

Sounds as though their first brood may have made it - hope so.

I was depressed reading this story - it's hard to understand this kind of behaviour.
Where I sit and work at home I can see the local families of sparrows who live in an ivy hedge in our garden, and watching them doing their sparrowy things, splashing about and congregating in various trees is a real pleasure; especially having seen them grow from squeaks in the hedge to rowdy crowds shooting about the garden...I know it's pure anthropomorphism but they do look as if they are doing it for fun rather than just survival

Also sad that so many people seem to be ill at the moment - hope that things improve for them soon.

Ah, Solari - you are a Pooter Whizz, I forgot!

Umm...how long have you got???

About 10 days ago I started getting a window popping up on Outlook Express asking me to put in my user name and password. I tried it several times and it just kept popping up again and again. During the call to Calcutta I tried putting in my husband's user name and password (we use the same machine) and it cleared and my mails came through. It was fine for a few days but then it started happening again. Sometimes it's OK and sometimes not but it's getting worse. I tried putting in OH's details again and now I've started getting some of his e-mails! When I've forwarded them to him they get sent back to me ARGH!!!

I'm able to access my mails through the VirginMedia website but WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH this is driving me nuts!

If it works with one account but not the other, then it looks like some sort of misconfiguration either your side or theirs. You'll have different accounts defined for both of your mailboxes. I'd wager that perhaps on your account settings, there's a box unticked or ticked where it shouldn't be (something like an authentication setting for example). The fact that you can log in via the webmail system suggests that your password doesn't need a reset.

Not at home so can't really fire it up in a VM, but in Tools > Accounts, you can bring up each account > edit/properties and view all of the settings - I'd take a note of all boxes that are ticked and the settings in each text box for the other account that works, then compare it with your own.

Do you use seperate logins for the same machine btw?

I had a couple of problems yesterday as well. I've been visiting the Virgin site regularly since they changed their spam filters a few months ago. Goodness knows how many emails I lost before I realised that ones that used to get through were no longer doing so.
