Hire a lorry and park it outside the authority's gates, letting all the tyres down while you're at it. That'll learn 'em.

O heck, just realised I have to go to Dental hygieneist in half an hour. They are worse than the dentist himself ! sad.gif

Mine's not too bad, plus she gives me loads of that gel stuff so I feel absolutely nothing.

Just went to iron my only smart jacket ready for placement tomorrow.....only to find it isn't even completely dry yet, and is unlikely to be by tomorrow sad.gif

Fingers crossed it'll be dry enough, but I could do without it being at all wet given that I have a 9 hour day tomorrow!

Do you have a fan heater? Blowing hot air across at it would help (not directly on it, if it's wool, but just making sure there is warm, dry air passing it).

Failing that, take some of the stuff out of your airing cupboard and hang it in there.

Iron it dry. ph34r.gif Just make sure that the steam on the iron is turned off as this method creates enough steam of its own. laugh.gif

Edit: and iron the reverse side so that the side people see doesn't go shiny.

Unfortunately I'm a student in halls so I don't have either - I do have a hairdryer though....... laugh.gif

Flossie, tried that but again, I'm using the iron provided for us so it's a bit pathetic and also my jacket was too damp to be helped much by it. Thankfully it's just the bottom edge/pockets which are a problem though so if I point a hairdryer at it for a while hopefully it'll help!!

I'm just in a blue mood. I can't say anything halfway intelligent lately. I keep accidentally causing offense... Or if not causing offense, at least being unable to hold a coherent conversation so that I seem cold and standoffish. I don't know why. sad.gif
Misti
It happens.

Try to remember that you can't make people feel offended though, if it happens its because they've allowed you to upset them.

A couple of month ago i was asked if I didn't mind not being asked to accompany a young student of mine in his grade 3 sax exam(I'm not his sax teacher) as they were going to ask someone else who'd previously accompanied him. That was fine with me though when I spoke to the person in question a couple of weeks ago it was news to her......
Last week when he came for his clarinet lesson I was told he has a date (just under 2 weeks as of today) and could I accompany.... and by the way they didn't know where the music was.
I said I'd have to have a look to see if I could manage to learn it in time (bearing in mind we'll need a rehearsal).
Having had a brief look at the music thanks to another forum member at weekend I'm not sure that I can manage to do it justice but I was told they'd be dropping it off for me on Sunday
Today I chased it up and pointed out that I'm really not sure that I will be able to learn it in time. It seems they've had to get a new book which had to be ordered and it will be dropped off this evening.
I don't want to let the poor child down but as has been pointed out to me it's his sax teacher's problem.
Me and some other people I've spoken to are a little bemused at the fact that it's got to within two weeks of the exam and the teacher hasn't yet felt it necessary to refer to the piano scores....

after three people leaving at work in the last three months, I'm just sad to see my floor of the office an empty shell of what it used to be. It used to be a real community, and now it's just a job.

(edit: and yes, I'm still thankful to have a job. I'm just mourning the loss of how it used to be.)

So having paid for my nice pint it was handed over in a plastic glass.
"Why the plastic?".
"Because of the football".

Eh? There's no football on the telly, no fans in the pub. But presumably on the premise that any time now the ground is going to empty and they are all going to come in here and start fighting, I have to drink out of plastic. Gah. mad.gif

If I have to hear another person tell me that B1 will definitely 'pass her 11 plus' I will probably bite them! It is not an exam you pass or fail. She has to out perform all but 99 other people

Hmm, well I'm a 1960s grammar school boy so perhaps I shouldn't comment. But wink.gif she has to beat all but 99 out of a total of how many?

Thank you, pushpull, for hearing me rant. smile.gif

730 applied to our local grammar last year - there's no catchment so it can vary quite a bit but generally more and more apply each year. Only the 'able table' type child applies so competition is pretty tough. I come from a non-grammar county originally so it all feels a bit weird to me. Sadly our local comps (and their Ofsted inspectors) accept the existence of the grammars as an excuse to have very little provision for the more able students. mad.gif

Hmm, yes that sounds a bit tougher than when I did 11 plus. I don't have much time for this "choose what system you want" which local authorities seem be able to apply. I would have thought a national standard would be better so everyone knows what they're getting no matter where they are. Oh and I would make grammar schools part of that national standard wink.gif
fsharpminor
I agree entirely pushpull, I too am a 60's grammar school boy ('58-'64). My school went 'comp' shortly after I left, it went down hill thereafter and is still descending !

There was a power cut earlier today in my flat, as well as the other 2 in my block.

Electricity has been back for 20 minutes now but it was rather annoying.

Mine went comp just as I entered the 6th form so at least I was isolated from the mayhem which quickly took hold of the earlier years.

Didn't sleep very well last night, then burned my finger getting child's croissant out of oven, then whilst running finger under the tap, I thought I'd try to make child a drink, but caught my charging phone and swiped it into a bowl.
This was all before 8am. Not the best day so far.

Obviously I have been doing too many online assessments for graduate scheme applications lately.

I had a dream last night where (instead of a numerical or verbal) I was having to tackle a musical reasoning test... ohmy.gif The online test was playing chord progressions, and cadances, and all sorts of other patterns of notes that I had to interpret the significance of. It was horrible!!

(I was never any good at aural tests even when I did my G8 5 years ago! unsure.gif )

Kinda funny on reflection, but I did wake up utterly terrified. The PhD option is becoming increasinly appealing. ph34r.gif

I really have had "one of those weeks"...!

First, pretty pooey workwise. Teambuilding efforts remarkably unproductive and looks like I'll be holding the baby when the project comes to an end... sad.gif . Team behaving like babies, in fact, and all rather embarrassing. Could have spent the week getting an overdue report written. That's how useless most of the week was. wacko.gif

(There were a couple of highlights though - nothing to do with the project - one oboe related smile.gif )

Then today...

Woke up late to pack because I was so exhausted. sad.gif
Had a stressful session with colleague in charge of accounts for the work event, who had got herself in a muddle, so late leaving for my plane. ohmy.gif
Then the hotel got the bill wrong. sad.gif ohmy.gif
Then the taxi in which I was going to the airport started stalling every 50 yards. ill.gif
Reached airport only 40 mins before flight. blink.gif
Total chaos as we were in the world capital of queue jumping... mad.gif
Running for security check... but hadn't paid tax I didn't know about (only a national flight). ph34r.gif
Finally made it onto the tarmac and... wham bam!!! Straight over on my ankle.
Now stranded in another hotel with leg in plaster. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif
For the third time. sad.gif
Also third accident/illness in Bolivia and I don't come here that often (five times total). mellow.gif
Just wish I could get the oboe out!!! unsure.gif sad.gif
