Please stick around, maggiemay and congratulations on getting half way to being a virtuoso! smile.gif

I was just rationalising to mysefl checking in on the Forum before getting my much-missed oboe out... I realise that the benefits of music for me are not not just from playing, or even listening, but also being around musicians and just people who care about music.

(I have bit of an aaarrrggh too - have to get my head around my job being on the cutting block, leaving the organisation I have known and love for over 15 years but is changing rapidly, and maybe also my adoptive home of the last 18 years... not a small challenge! A big worry is what will happen to my music... And in the meantime our wind band is for some resason in the doldrums - the Director of the Cultural Centre just rang me as I was writing this to see what I could do to help motivate everyone... )

Aw, thank you - smile.gif

Yes, I think the 'being around musicians' is one of the great pluses of the forums.
Sorry about your wind band though, and the changes happening to your job.

And very sorry to hear about your grandma, Dawn. Hope she recovers well.

Thanks all. Can you please send those virtual hugs to my gran not me and as many good thoughts and prayers too please ....

Sounds like its a minor stroke - doesn't show up on a scan - but has taken away her ability to speak. sad.gif

Apparently she's trying though but can't get owt out. How frustrating sad.gif

She's physically quite strong but has also lost some movement on her right.

She should make it through but we're worried about quality of life .... and I'm supposed to be going away next week...

As My gran describes herself she's "a tough old bird!" smile.gif wub.gif but she's nearly 88 and can't be tough forever ... sad.gif

I'll take your word for this, but still don't really follow. People often talk about problems with PMs, but you can block particular forumites, and why let one person's nastiness drive you away? I do understand that perhaps something like that would make you want to go, but isn't that your own choice?

It's certainly sad that many of the older forumites have deregistered over the last year. sad.gif It's not the same without them.

Ah well, Celeste, at least you can get Scotswoman-sized pain relief meant for Scotswomen! Once in a Japanese hospital I was accused of trying to work the system when a nurse asked if I'd had any pain relief and I said "No"... I'd simply failed to notice the minute dose I'd been given, oops!

Hope the prodding and needle-sticking is done with soon, and that you get some useful answers and have plenty of support when you need it.

Seriously, there was a time in my life when I got to see a lot of sunrises in similar circumstances, and while I've largely forgotten just what the pain was like, I still remember and treasure the sunrises....beautiful, calm, sunrises...

Indeed. Noodle will be very sadly missed.

With respect, BM, I think if you have not been on the receiving end of this kind of thing, you may not imagine how absolutely obnoxious people can be. It can reverberate beyond the forums, and therein often lies the decision to leave. I don't know the precise details in Noodle's case, but I have known of teachers being put in an impossible situation in the past: it's possible for your livelihood to be compromised by an unpleasant and determined other person.

Celeste - hope you are feeling better and home very soon. I remember my mum being sleepless in hospital after falling and breaking her wrist many years ago, and being cheered by watching the sunrise and describing how it made a sleepless night worthwhile. xx

This is in no way meant to be argumentative, but I'm also puzzled as to how things reach this stage. (This is not to say I'm disputing that they have, as I know nothing whatsoever about this situation - or others which have recently caused people to leave and/or where people's real lives have been affected.) I would have thought that it is possible to keep people at arm's length on an internet forum, but perhaps there are some really determined and nasty people out there. After all people do all sorts of strange and horrible things in the real world, so I suppose there's no reason why it should be any different here.

Thanks, maggiemay. I can see that if one's livelihood were at risk, it could be necessary to de-register. I was looking at it as if no-one's identity was known in real life, which clearly isn't always the case. It's a great pity that so many enjoyable areas of life are compromised by one or two odd people, but it's no good pretending that it doesn't happen.

Thanks - seems the docs are now saying that she did have a massive stroke after all. Mum says that there's been no change all week. She' not at all "with it" seems very unaware and cannot speak or feed properly sad.gif

I've not been to see her as Mum says that she really wouldn't be aware of it and I kind of want to put off seeing her like that. I have much better memories. Though I've not seen as much of her in recent years ( mainly due to her ill health and not wanting to burden her by descending too often with the kids) we've been very close. I love my gran and it's upsetting to think what she's like now. sad.gif

I've my mum's blessing ,as it were, to go away next week - we'd lose the money if we didn't and the kids'd be so disappointed and there's nothing we can do if we don't go. Mum says she'll keep me informed if there's any change either way.

Misterioso. Hope it's all worth it and that you make a rapid recovery.

Cyrilla - Big hugs to you too.

My mother in law (86) is now in hospital 270 miles away, so my wife has been down there in East Suffolk for over two weeks, I popped down just for last weekend. She hopes to get back just from Sunday-Tuesday, then back again. She had to go off the day after our first grandchild was born, so has only seen her briefly on the afternoon she was born.

My Dad (90) has twice in the last week been taken to hospital in Keighley with abdominal pains, but they've done loads of tests (scans, ultrasound , ecg etc) and can't find anything wrong ! He had just started to play Crown Green Bowls again, and has been remarkably fit for his age.
