I hadn't realised it was possible to get a wrong perscription and not notice. Don't they normally do checks after you have them fitted to ensure that you can read okay?

My childhood optician always did: did a quick check with the reading chart with separate eyes and together. Only now do I again have someone who checks. In the intervening time I've several times been unhappy with new specs, and eventually reverted to the old ones as giving me clearer vision. I assumed it was a bit of a lottery until I moved to my current opticians - and explained I was a patient from ****. They asked me to take in the specs with lenses that worked best (not the same for left and right eyes) and worked from those and a sight test. The ones I have now are great and I assume I am a rotten testee.

I've just heard that a boy (Y10 I think) that I taught at primary school has died suddenly. He was very musical - loved my choir, played clarinet...and his gran was the very first 'Maria' in the West End production of 'The Sound of Music' (before the film).

This is the third death I've heard about in a week - plus hearing that an old friend has cancer, (and his cat died yesterday), and another problem too...

Partially Fibro but I'm sure there's either facet joint or disc involvement too, and it is not helped by the young lad on the scooter on the path outside the classrooms today. Headteacher was really understanding and is going to talk to the children in retrospect.

Yes FMS is a pain in the... back in my case and arm in yours. My sleep has been dodgy too. Trouble is as you know it is so easy to get into a lack of sleep increased pain cycle. I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself at the moment. sad.gif

Broken guitar strings, children turning up with dusty old guitars retrieved from Great Uncle`s attic and expecting to be the next Jimi Hendrix in one lesson! Fitting lessons round school timetables-the staff don`t want them to miss the core subjects and the children don`t want to miss PE or playtime! Children who are not sure whether they want to sign up for lessons or not. Pet dogs and little cousins who eat tutor books and twiddle tuning pegs......oh the life of a Peri.

Did anyone see Waterloo Road last night for the most ridiculous representation of music teaching in a television drama? wacko.gif

I did! Offset the protests in my mind with another conversation something like 'ooo I want that flute and a 'cello and a .........' etc! tongue.gif I'd cry if an orchestra was set up like that! He's also the drama teacher O_o dunno how that works... (or at least he did both when he was last on in series 3-4, me? too much Waterloo road? never! tongue.gif blush.gif )

Loving the back-to-front treble clef on the wall, and the great plans to have an orchestra full of pupils who have no previous experience of playing a musical instrument. rolleyes.gif

Such sad news, Cyrilla. sad.gif It's very hard to come to terms with death, but especially when it's such a young person.

Today, something happened that I had been fervently hoping for years would not happen. Would rather not be too explicit in public, especially after this morning when I was very explicit in public (ie an Incoherent Sobbing Wreck). Suffice it to say that I feel totally gutted and extremely sad.

half my flat mates in halls are LOVELY people I enjoy spending time with (and don't feel a pressure to drink/club with! biggrin.gif) but the others are uh out everynight getting drunk and one plays ridiculously loud rap music out of these giant speakers sad.gif
The first night I was here, the party people left this guy who'd downed a heck of a lot of vodka, unconscious in his room as they clubbed! (coming back to unconscious people, vomit, socks over smoke detectors etc is dry.gif )
*sigh* met some lovely people but it is just so TRYING! Can't wait for normal timetable to start...

I'm sorry to say that from my children's experiences, this is typical student behaviour and is likely to persist on several nights a week even after the start of lectures. My daughter was driven mad in her first year because the girl who had the room next to hers was given to clubbing until 3am, when she would return home drunk and noisy, often with friends, and put on loud music. If the guy with the giant speakers persists, you could always ask to move rooms - but be careful where you move to, because it could be worse!

The up side is that next year you'll have chosen people to share a house with, which should be a lot better. smile.gif
Floss
I didn't want to say it, but yes - my entire year there was the same, probably actually getting worse as the months went on.

However, after a year in the most quiet house imaginable, I wouldn't mind housemates who like to party just a little bit. wink.gif The grass is always greener!

Sadly, this is why for me, university only lasted for 1 month (OU was much quieter!) - I just couldn't understand how people could behave like that - it was totally alien to me.
jod
Just caught up with this one. I didn't have the best first year in halls. I did own one trump card though. I was the only one in our block who was not terrified of Spiders. It was quite simple if the others wanted arachnids removed they had to remember there were various things I wanted too. (Like peace and quiet after midnight) Also If I get up at 8:00am I frankly could not care less if they've been clubbing until three am and have a hang over especially as in the first year there were two of us who worked as bar/waiting staff in the local night clubs and therefore knew how to let ourselves in at that hour quietly without disturbing anybody else. (we had already had a good laugh at those with a skin-full when the bouncers sent them on their way)

Bad student behaviour normally settles down - at about the point the first piece of work has to be handed in. otherwise my suggestion is keep your things tidy and buy some ear plugs.

Yuck indeed! Oh I do hope you were not to badly bitten.

Spray the flee-ridden corpse with the type of flea spray one gets from the vet. Have a thorough shower and treat any bites with calamine lotion. Make sure your siamese is up-to-date with their frontline treatment.

I can cope with most things however fleas and maggots make my skin crawl and ants, well they potentially kill me.

I'm extremely fond of my cats, but I do tend to inspect their 'presents' incase they come with 'added extras' I didn't bank on and if necessary get hubby to deal with it or put the marigolds on and triple wrap everything in plastic.
