Still have major PC problems sad.gif .

Spent hours in the middle of the night with Virgin trying to do things and apparently the connection speed is very slow.

Lucky to have made it on to here briefly.

Just as I wa sleaving for church , a wood pigeon (a big fella) flew into our lounge window, and lay stunned on our front lawn. What would you have done ?
Well I was a bit tight for time so I left it, as I thought it might have recovered. But I'd forgotten about the local feline population. Of course when I got back it was dead with its neck almost severed ill.gif

Of course then I had to deal with it !

I'm afraid I did that and it didn't work. so I went back in the afternoon armed with a tool box. By holding the key to one side I was able to see that a piece of metal seemed to have fallen and blocked the key. That meant a dreadfull aaaagghh as there was no way to move it.I couldn't take the lock off because even unscrewed the key was still jammed.

I had to ring the teacher concerned and tell her that on Monday she wouldn't be able to get into her classroom. She was very kind and said she would send her long suffering husband to see if he could do anything. Meanwhile my weekend has been spoilt as I feel terribly guilty - though I don't think it is actually my fault that the lock seems to have broken. Just my fault that I decided to lock the door.

Gelignite? There is an article in this week's Radio Times describing how to blow the lock of a safe without damaging the door or the contents....

Sorry, couldn't resist blush.gif . It doesn't sound as if it was your fault, and at least you have had time to warn the people concerned. If you had done it in the middle of a school day you might have locked in an essential briefcase or something.

Hope it is good news.
I had two raised liver values on a blood test once, but my GP said in my case there was nothing to worry about (the blood test was for something else - when he had the results on screen he didn't say anything about the numbers in red, so I asked why he didn't mind those being out of range! In my case there was a pefectly reasonably [and, I expect, common] explanation)

Thanks for all the support and sympathy. I was asleep when it happened (2.45 am) and I was completely shocked and scared. I think it was just a random act of vandalism - well, that's certainly what I hope as I don't want to go through this again! The glaziers have put up some sheet tape stuff to cover the hole in the window and they're going to replace the pane tomorrow, so on a practical level things are getting sorted. I think it'll take me much longer to feel safe in my flat again though... sad.gif

I have a computer aaagh. for some reason I don't seem able any more to register PDF files I have downloaded. I haven't done this for some time so either I am a nitwit and have forgotten how to do it or something has gone wrong somewhere.

I tried to register a download from the Susan Paradis site - Ive got quite few fo her pieces on my computer so it has worked in the past. But having brought the file up I can't find any register button on my Google browser and when I right click I don't get any menu offering register.

Can any one who is good at computers help please?

OK. Beat this. My cat has just nearly set my house on fire by peeing into an multi-socket extension lead....FLAMES, the works. Cue Bag in rubber gloves. Plug was so welded to the socket I had to turn the power off and cut through the lead to get it all out.

I'm SO sorry but I had to laugh at this. I know it's wicked but it reminds me of a book I just read where a ghastly uncle died in a freak accident by doing something similar on a live power line, and is how the narrator got left a lucky bottle in his will......

I hope you don't have any permanent damage after this, honest. I just need to go and get another tissue....

Arrive at exam centre exactly on time (i.e. ten minutes before exam); no sign of steward; go to loo; exit loo to sight of steward ushering in candidate after me; ask steward what's going on; steward says, "You weren't here"; reply, "Yes I was, but you weren't"; steward looks sheepish; sit in waiting room quietly seething and getting nervous for 20 minutes; spend afternoon rushing around having left exam centre later than expected. mad.gif

Joking aside, if the cat escaped with just some singed fur I'd say it was quite lucky.

My dad is now in hospital with low sodium levels due to something to do with kidneys that can harm liver?? Been looking up on the internet and it sounds very serious. He's meant to be starting an alcohol detox programme today. Apprantely doctors have said if he carries on misusing his body like this he'll have about two years.

Hope this is the wake up call he needs.

Just got home from the Lowry in Salford - my first visit. Went to see Ruddigore and I paid GBP55 for best seats - centre of front row of circle. That's 57 miles and 90 minutes each way.

Seems they sold some seats twice.... including mine. wacko.gif

Since I was on my own (already seated) and the others were a party of four, I relinguished my seat.

The usher got me a seat 9 rows back and off to one side... not what I paid for.

I have just e-mailed my complaint... huh.gif

I feel rather let down: I paid a premium price and had a second rate experience. sad.gif

Both the production and the perfromance were good.

Trivial compared to other matters, but it was on top of the previous day I was at home all day for a delivery which didn't materialise... one that I had three e-mails confirming the date...

Fingers crossed it's what he needs to sort himself out. Personally, I think he needs a hobby that isn't going down the pub ... and to take some responsibility and get a job to pay for it. He's 60 though, so whilst it'd be great if he sorts himself out I'm not quite sure how he will do this.

I asked him what he is interested in (because honestly, I don't have a clue!) which came down to riding motorbikes which he can't do due to hip problems and going to the pub / drinking at home. Somehow he's managed to run up personal debts of over ?20,000 which he has spent on nothing useful, either.

My mum works six days a week so can't be there to watch him 24/7!
