Thanks for the replies! The pain is less today and it's easier to walk, so I'm guessing that I've just bruised it. The plan is to wait for a week and then see a doctor if it hasn't gone, I think. Am getting very good at bending from the knees, and have pulled a muscle in my arm from lowering myself in and out of chairs, but apart from that, am getting on okay.

Need any help CPPF?
Miss Ross
I'm just going to post here so that I don't have to wake my mum...

I don't know what to do. There are still 2 weeks of this term left and I'm already so tired that I could cry at the thought of having to get out of bed in the mornings. I don't have enough time to practice all the music I have for the different orchestras, and I really don't want to be in one of them any more. I know my parents won't let me leave though, or if they did, they'd make me leave the pantomime as well sad.gif. Also, I really don't feel great. I closed my eyes for a second and when I opened them the table looked as though it was hurtling towards me, and my hands are shaking really badly. I couldn't eat at dinner either, even though I hadn't really eaten since breakfast. *sigh*

Anyway, that's my selfish wee rant over. Sorry guys! ph34r.gif

Not selfish thereThere.gif I know it sounds patronising but the first thing I'm going to say is that things will look better when you've had some sleep and you're less ill. The second thing is maybe talking to your parents about dropping out of one of the orchestras... Assuming it's not a passing thing, then it probably is a good idea, especially as you're feeling so overwhelmed...

Two weeks seems like a lot I know, but it's not as bad as you think... The term will be over soon if you hang in there.

I hope you feel better soon!

I'm really sorry to hear that Floss. You sound dead tired. Lucky has posted some good advice. Speak to mum and dad and try to find a comprimise. Try and eat something too. Get to bed as soon as you can and rest. Take care of yourself. xxxx
nicki_flute
Maybe you've got too much on, Miss Ross, which is making you stressed and feel like that sad.gif *hugs*. Hope this can be resolved Take care. xx
LooneyTunes
Definitely rest up smile.gif

We all get like this at times and it may be that you're pushing yourself too hard - your body is starting to rebel. As Lucy said, a good rest should help and try and take things easy tomorrow if you can.

All the best.

Hope you feel better soon Miss Ross, take care.
jod
Are you feeling any better Floss?

It sounds like you need some "Floss time" - time out to do the things you enjoy the most. This can be as simple as pouring a deep bath and occupying the bath room whilst soaking in some rather luxurious bath product whilst listening to your favourite music, going for a long walk on your own, reading a book, whatever you find calming.

If this persists I suggest you contact your GP to insure that this is a simple case of burning the candle at both ends. Be frank with your parents. Parents get things wrong all the time despite the best of intentions. You are always articulate here so I can't see why you should have a problem. Your parents would not want you to suffer, and could well suggest something you could do together as a family that will make you feel brighter.

The best of luck with this one. A similar thing happened to me at your age, and the one thing I learnt was to keep my parents in the loop. Admitting you're knackered is hard, but an important lesson to learn.
katyjay
Hi Miss Ross

I hope you're feeling better this morning, and that you've had some good rest. If you aren't or haven't, please, please talk to your parents.

If you can't find the words to talk to them, print out your wee rant from here, and hand it to them.

It's easy to take on one more thing...and one more thing...and one more thing and to overload yourself before you realise it. Not so easy to decide which additional thing is to come off the list.

Take care of yourself
Miss Ross
Oh, thankyou all for replying. I thought I'd probably be ignored...I haven't spoken to either of my parents about it, mainly as my dad is currently off sick from work with some sort of stress-related thing and my whingeing probably won't help matters.

I went to bed soon after I posted, not that I slept until a couple of hours later - I thought I was tired but I just couldn't sleep blink.gif. I didn't feel quite so ill when I got up this morning, but still didn't feel like eating, so made do with a cup of tea (it really is magical stuff...).

My music teacher had a go at me for coming into school today. Ten minutes later she decided to nag me about some coursework I'd completely forgotten about, so I've now got 3 hours worth of listening assignments to do by next Friday.

I've got an orchestra rehearsal tomorrow evening and all day on Saturday, which I'm dreading, so on Sunday I can either do absolutely nothing, which seems really appealing, or spend all day frantically trying to get things finished.

I just don't know why I can't keep on top of things any more. I more or less managed last year, and all of you have much more to do than me yet you deal with it fantastically.

Oh yes, and apparently the careers adviser wants to see me today. No doubt she'll tell me I'm going about everything completely the wrong way.
sarah-flute
*hugs*

Take care of yourself, hon. It sounds like you need to get a bit radical and cut some things out, and even if you can't do that, definitely make sure you find some time to just chill, relax, and do something for YOU.

thereThere.gif

And none of this "I should be able to cope" malarkey, or "everyone else deals with things much better". DON'T you DARE beat yourself up about feeling ill and tired, that's the last thing you need. So there tongue.gif BE NICE TO YOURSELF (or we'll send the forum mafia round to Have A Quiet Word ™ wink.gif)
nicki_flute
I've overstressed before and made myself ill because of it, I don't want you to go down the same route.

Sarah speaks wise words...

Why did you go to school today? Talk to your Dad, it will help you too. He won't like the fact that his "little girl" is feeling over stressed, but should empathise. You may even be able to support one another!

By not telling your Dad you could be adding to his problems.

Go home from school sick and sign yourself off until the weekend. Go and see your GP and be extremely frank with him or her. They'll probably want to do a blood test to rule out a few things. Don't hold back in the doctors surgery, and if you end up in tears then thats normal too.

Remember you are not whinging. You have a genuine problem and you are asking your parents to demonstrate their love to you. That is 100% reasonable, and is something that as a parent we have to expect.

Now get home, see your doctor and all the best. Sod school for a few days. You're the important one here. Just because your Dad is ill it doesnt detract from the fact you're human and have needs too.
maggiemay
Yes, agreed, good advice from Sarah and others here.
Sorry Miss Ross, only just caught up with this.

Don't push yourself too hard. Is there someone at school you can discuss things with ? head of year or similar? it's not in their best interests to have you unwell - so maybe someone can help ease the pressure a bit.
DaisyChain
Hope you're better today, Floss xxxx
lucky045
First of all Miss Ross - you should not "be able to cope". I'm not stressed at the moment myself, but with french homework I'm keeping my head above water by doing all I can then copying the rest off someone else. I have essays every night, and I don't think anyone in the world could cope with the school work AND all day orchestras like you are. You're in the same year as me too, though it's a different system, and I imagine your workload is similar. With orchestra etc on top, no wonder you're burnt out.

I said earlier that you should talk to your parents - if your dad is stressed, perhaps you could tell your mum, and then ask her to explain it calmly to your dad... I imagine your dad would want to know anyway, but if you don't want to stress him, talking to your mum is always a good idea.

I hope you get a break soon! Just think - two more weeks then you can relax.

thereThere.gif Soph, I know how you feel, I'm not in the greatest mood either.

Benson - Agh exams, scary, but if you've done it twice already, and you can still remember most things, I'd take a break. You'll burn yourself if you revise all the time, and that won't help with your exams.

Hi lucy. Last week was awful. First my bike was stolen, then the one I borrowed to get to school broke while i was on it and threw me off. Then, after it was mended, it did it again the next day. Then I had to spend the rest of my spare time during the week finding a new bike, so after homework, there wasn't any time for piano sad.gif That's the gist of it. How was your week?

AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

So on Friday I'm due at Cyrilla's, get into the car to drive there and join the 60 mile tailback parked on the M25. Manage about 10 minutes of an hour's lesson and then have to find my way home again.... mad.gif

Then today I have to go into London. See that there's a jam on the M25 and am pleased that I'm on the train instead. Except that when I get to the station, the previous train is still at the platform....broken down. mad.gif Fortunately it didn't take them too long to get it out of the station and allow other trains to run normally again smile.gif

Get to Barry-Clari's eventually for his lesson. biggrin.gif

Afterwards, set off back to Waterloo to meet Misterjay for the train home. Get to Waterloo....and wait....and wait..... sad.gif

Then get a blank text from Misterjay. So I try phoning him - goes to voicemail. So I wait....and wait....and wait.... sad.gif

Then I get another text from Misterjay: "thelongac5recambridgecircus" huh.gif

So I sneak into Smith's, find an A-Z, and look in it find out where Cambridge Circus is. Set out on the underground to find Cambridge Circus. Find it, and don't find anything called the Longacre (although I'd guessed it might be a pub.) rolleyes.gif

A lot of panicked dashing round Covent Garden later I find the hostelry in question (nowhere near Cambridge Circus) where my husband, his soon to be ex-boss (the poor chap's being promoted to Head Office) and the department were busy getting squffed. ohmy.gif blink.gif wacko.gif

Manage to prise Misterjay out of the bar, and try to find a tube station. Must have taken a wrong turning, 'cos we ended up in Trafalgar Square sad.gif . Get on a seriously crowded tube back to Waterloo, and a seriously crowded train back home. This has been with me trying to keep Misterjay awake and at least vaguely upright.....

Of course we've left his car at the station and driven mine home. And now he tells me he's in Leicester tomorrow, so he'll need to take my car, and leave me to collect his from the station when I have time! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR mad.gif

I had a wonderful day at school. I just got 18 tinies into the classroom and sat round me on the carpet where we do group activities. Was about to launch into "Noddy and the Little Yellow Car" when the cry went up "Marion's being sick". She was too! Fortunately she was still in the corridor hanging up her jacket (tiled floor) which was a lot better than throwing upon the carpet! I don't get the nursery helper on Friday mornings so there was nothing for it but to get the bucket and mop, sit the offending child in front of a sink and put a bossy child in charge of the class while I coped with the mess and got the head teacher to ring for grandma to come and get the green faced infant and remove it as fast as possible. Problem was she is the female half of a set of twins and little brother - whom grandma did not volunteer to take home as well - howled loudly and continuously when sister disappeared.

Just before playtime the toilets flooded. We are already down to two out of four toilets in working order and the remaining two cubicles were ankle deep in water. Off to get the mop again! This time the class were in the middle of their mid morning snack so I left them all eating bread and chocolate and tried to stem the flood. When I got back there was chocolate all over the tables, a couple of mugs of water spilt and the child who has a kidney problem was happily sharing his bottle of special drink with half the class!! The school handyman came and did an emergency repair which by the end of the day was not working and we are now waiting for the plumber's estimate to renew the whole damn system!

Arrrrrrgh!!!!

Agh! Exactly the same situation, but with Oxford! Though, I eventually did just let them make me apply. I kind of want to prove I can do it. I really didn't want the extra pressure though, so I don't think you should do what I did and just do what they say. You stick to your choices if you have your reasons. I would say though, if it's a confidence issue, then maybe you should think about it - lots of people have faith in you.

Otherwise though, it should be completely your choice - if you get through next week refusing then it's too late anyway.

how throroughly annoying, Barry.

If I have a long factual post to put on the forums, I tend to type it and save it in Word first, then when I'm ready I can copy and paste it all onto a post. That way if the connection is a bit dodgy, I'm not so likely to lose all my work.
