I decided at about 4pm to sync and update my iPhone to iOS 5. It downloads the updates, it back-up my phone, it updates the phone, it restores the phone, it FAILS in the restore process

It says 'do you want to restore from your back-up?' (that would be the back-up taken at 17.40 ( ) during the 'back-up' process...? Yes. FAILS, repeats process - Yes, FAILS. Various faffing, Yes, seems to work.

Problem: entire iTunes directory is MISSING (I have about 200 CDs ripped to iTunes....), my text messages, contacts and calendar info are MISSING back to the last full back-up in October.

Re-run process, same problem.

Try searching Apple site: help is available if you PAY for it. Go onto support site forum: seems I am not alone and the funny thing is people who have raised this issue have not had a reply.

My diary is now screwed I have a ruck of appointments that are now missing and I have a number of new phone numbers that are now missing as well from contacts, including cello teacher's details.

This is very very SLOPPY it's the kind of IT botch-up you expect from a rank amateur. If we rolled out an IT change at work that did this to our customers or staff we'd be shot.

Another thing (whilst I'm moaning at people moaning about what other people choose to write) just because you would not choose to have written what anyone else have said, you do not know the circumstances why they have written it, or their circumstances. There are aspects about many peoples lives others feel uncomfortable about and may rather not know, unfortunately that is life. Instead of typing invective and hitting send, just accept it and get on with life. You can change the way you behave and react, you can't change them (especially by remote control) and all you end up doing is look silly.

Nobody is going to fundamentally change because somebody goes and attacks them on a forum. Technically that is trolling and flaming.

I didn't have breakfast, I have green socks on and the Victoria line train I was on kept getting stuck because people kept getting coats/scarves/limbs in the doors. I also broke my phone over Christmas. I hope my stupid cat has had the sense to come indoors with the horrible weather.

On the plus side I have plenty of 2p coins. I didn't pick any up from drains though so I don't think I have yours, barry...
