Full Version: Anybody Know The Point Of These Two Sayings?

Yabba
Got given two sayings today off a non-musical person who got them from musical people.

Apparently, 'Go Down And Enter By Force Charlie' is meant to be all the sharps, and 'Far Better Eating And Drinking Gas Cooker' is meant to be all the flats? How can this be? Every note has a sharp and a flat to it... what is this to do with? The way of writing key sigs? Scales? huh.gif I've no idea... any ideas/ anyone who knows what they're on about would be helpful please! biggrin.gif

I think you have to count the words. For example

'Go Down And Enter By Force Charlie'
means

key of G = 1 sharp
Key of D = 2 sharps
Key of A = 3 sharps

etc.
saxlover
yes, the first letter of each words indicate the key. and the number of sharps/flats increase as you go along

I learnt it by "Father Charles goes down and ends battle" and "Battle ends and down goes Charles' Father"

That way is to help remember the order in which sharps and flats appear, while the previous was the order of keys.
These things make sense AFTER you learn the thing you are trying to remember.
If you learn them one at a time then it's ok...if you really have to learn them all at once for some reason then this can help.

Oh yes, so it was. Oops *feels stupid*

I could never forget that from being a child _ I lived on the perimeter of (then) London Airport, and I got reminded every 10 mins as a BEA flight went in to land.

Needless to say - it stuck with me laugh.gif
