What is 'The Woodcutter's Prayer', SuzyMac??

I do know something of that name but it's from a children's Christmas cantata/play - don't know if it's the same one.

It probably is the one you're thinking of - we sang it as part of an alternative nativity in primary school. Instead of focussing on the traditional story, it looks at the shepherds' journey, etc. The three wise men stayed with a woodcutter one night. The song's in G maj 3/4 (I can't do this very well...) it goes: drd ldl rmr d I think! The words start off: 'One night, three strangers I'd not seen before...and all dressed in royal robes stood outside my door..'

Ah - well, I would write it as: s, / d dd dd m d / s, s,l,t, rd

In other words, notes below doh are normally written with a little dash like a comma.

Hope this unconfuzzles you a bit!

"It was on a starry night"

I think that's the title, we sung it my primary school. It's the sort of song that brings back warm happy memories! tongue.gif

I'm also very fond of "The truth from above" (RVW)

This is my favourite! (In fact I was playing it last evening, funnily enough...)

Aw, well done with the solfa, noodle - I thought it wasn't right at first then I realised that what you've written is the introduction, rather than the first phrase of the song itself! smile.gif

I'm not 100% sure of the first phrase, I've never sung it, only accompanied it! smile.gif

Thanks for that Cyrilla. I've never seen that before, only d' if it's an octave above. Noodle now less confuzzled! smile.gif

Ah - which is why you knew the intro and not the first phrase of the song!

*understands now*

It was on a starry night,
When the hills were bright,
Earth lay sleeping, sleeping calm and still.
And in a cattle shed,
In a manger bed,
*hum hum hum hum, hum hum hum hum hum*

Choddy
Lully, lulla, thou little tiny child,
By by, lully lullay.

1. O sisters too, how may we do
For to preserve this day
This poor youngling, for whom we do sing,
By by, lully lullay?

2. Herod, the king, in his raging,
Charged he hath this day
His men of might, in his own sight,
All youn children to slay.

3. That woe is me, poor child for thee!
And ever morn and day,
For thy parting neither say nor sing,
By by, lully lullay!
Saxophonist
nope, never heard of it
