The best thing is to ask your singing teacher or, if you haven't got one, a competent singer (properly trained) to show you what this means and how to use each type of voice. Describing it in words is quite difficult - you need to hear the difference.

yeah i agree that it would be best to ask a professional/singing teacher.

for me...i use head voice when singing higher notes and then chest voice when i'm singing lower notes (i'm a soprano). it depends on your range and type of voice though.
