Hi,
I have a piano exam (grade 8) coming up this Monday (28th Nov.) and I was wondering how the marks are divided on the different parts of the test

Something like this?
Max: 150

- Pieces - 90
- Scales - 21
- Aural - 18
- Sight reading - 20?

And another question: how many scales are they going to ask ?

Thanks for answering my questions

ps: this is my first time to take a practical exam and I really don't know what to expect....

Your marking is nearly right (21, not 20, for the last item).

There are a great many scales, arpeggios, etc. to learn at Grade 8, and obviously the examiner will not be able to hear anywhere near all of them. The normally pick out one or two from each section of the scales, say 2 or 3 majors, 2 or 3 minors, etc., but obviously you have to learn them all as you don't know which ones are going to be chosen.

Good luck with your exam, you will be absolutely fine. smile.gif

oh, one little question:

Am I allowed to bring just the copies of the sheet music from the pieces or do I really have to bring the book? It's a bit stupid to buy the entire book just for one little piece... rolleyes.gif

You have to have original editions of the book for copyright purposes even if you then play from photocopies to avoid page turns.

But it's not legal to have the copies if you don't own the book.... dry.gif

I don't know, if it's proper sheet music (and not a photocopy) I don't know how it can't be OK...

Good luck on your exam!

True.... maybe I was misunderstanding the word 'copies'.
If you have the music as a separate edition then that is ok.

Well done Raindrop! biggrin.gif

It's nice to get a distinction for GR8 as it's the last grade you do.

Wow, you got your results already!? I did mine around the same time as you and I haven't got mine yet. Now I feel like phoning my teacher to see if they're in!

Congratulations on the distinction!
