If anyone is as weird as me to have planned it, or have in fact had the delights, what music will/did you have ?

I want Canon in D with the signing, and obvious *here comes the bride* on the way in, and "wedding march" on the way out.

Oh, and for first dance I want "She", but I can't rememebr hwo it's sung by.. it's in Notting Hill though...

What about yooou?

I can tell you what we HAD! I came in to Brahms Haydn Variations, and left the church to the sound of Widor's Toccata. Wonderful piece!

I'd have a Chopin Polonaise (No.3 in A "Military" or No.6 in A flat "Heroic")

OR

Handel's Zadok the Priest

OR!!!

Saint Saens Organ Symphony No.3 (The Maestoso section at least)

It was probably Le Onde though...performed by Nat... ?
anakrron
My dad's sister played "Wacht auf, ruft uns die Stimme" (Sleepers arise or something in English) by Bach on my parents' wedding day. biggrin.gif She also played something else but I can't remember what. As for mine... I don't know....
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Hmm..me and Nick.. wub.gif wub.gif I think we just had 'Summer', I know i said in the other thread that I'd have that at my funeral played by my mate Em, i think I'd have it at my wedding too! Also Le Onde, Wedding Day at Troldhagen, Canon in D...

Elvis Costello I believe.

No idea what music I want at my wedding!

Wedding I went to recently had fab music, in some African language... I can't remember what, I forget which bit of Africa that family came from (know toooooo many people with African connections and they get muddled at this time of night...) they danced out to a very funky tune, and the one they had coming in was beautiful and called "Come Closer My Love" which I thought was fabulous for a bride walking down the aisle to her groom!
katyjay
Given that (1) we couldn't find a choir for mid-August and (2) the organist we'd booked broke his arm about a week before the wedding so we were working with a replacement person I didn't know, we opted for the usual in & out (Here Comes The Bride and the Wedding March), and two singable hymns (Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven and Love Divine All Loves Excelling) so that the congregation could make as much noise as possible.
all ears
Blimey blink.gif I never knew...my husband and I got married at the town hall, him in the 20-year old arctic-weight suit he bought for his sister's wedding in Japan's far north, and me in the skintight red suit I wore to carry my grandmother's coffin...so we didn't exactly do the wedding march!

BUT. When I asked him, he said he would have liked to enter the church to "Also Sprach Zarathrustra "(the theme from the movie "2001") huh.gif ...with Joplin's "The Entertainer" for the reception rolleyes.gif .

Gosh, suddenly the wedding we actually had is looking better and better.

if i ever engaged in this strange pagan ritual i'd be the one coming down the aisle to be given away [or is it sold] to chopins prelude op28 no.20 or a-n-other funereal march.
for the divorce i'd go for karg ellert's version of now thank we all thy god, i'm sure, full great to swell, pedals to great and swell. and a peel of bells.

We played "Depuis le Jour" from "Louise" by Charpentier for signing the register - a fantastic aria - the sentiment is something along the lines of "Since the day I gave myself to you....I'm so happy" etc.
One of the few really happy (not to say sensual) opera arias. I have sung it too (though not very well - it's a real killer! If Katyjay hasn't tried it and fancies a challenge, I have the sheet music!)

Must admit it's one I'm interested in - it just failed to make it into my LTCL repertoire at the last rethink.

We had the Trumpet Voluntary for the entry of blushing bride which I found on an album called "Organ Favourites" when I was looking for an organ recording of the Wedding March from Midsummer Night's dream (which is what we left the service to). There were lots of other neat little pieces on the album which we used for the register signing and so on. I REALLY wanted to go out to Widor's Toccata, but my mum wanted the wedding march, so me and the other 'alf went out to Mendohlsson (sp??) and then the guests were left to Widor!
Jazz during the reception, with some Strauss for the first waltz... Then Abba I'm afraid tongue.gif

ah... rosy glow of nostalgia...

Well I've not got married yet, but hopefully it'll be on the cards in a couple of years! Am gonna be moving in with him in about 6 months or so, so we'll make sure we can cope with each other first!!!

I think I'd like to be quite traditional and go with here comes the bride and the wedding march. For the signing of the register, maybe the flower duet, as that's just lovely. THough I have a good friend who's in a flute and harp duo, so maybe we could have some of that!!!!

We have 'our own' song, which is by Andy Williams I think.............'I love you baby, and if it's quite alright, I love you baby..................'. That's be for our first dance!!!!!

Jerusalem

It's not that bad, it's just having a large enough instrument with a responsive enough touch to deal with the filigree finger work smile.gif

As for weddings, first time around (church) I had:

In: Antiphonal fanfare for three brass choirs (Bliss arr. Me)
Hymns: O praise ye the Lord, Come down O Love Divine, Lo! He comes with clouds descending (ok, it was July but I love that tune)
Register Signing: Two movements from Suite Antique (Rutter) - flute/organ duet
Out: Crown Imperial (Walton)

We put together a jazz group for the reception, so I had a happy time playing piano in that smile.gif

Second time was a civil job (as opposed to the uncivil job the first one turned out to be tongue.gif) so we only had CDs but this included before the ceremony:

Romanza from Tuba Concerto (Vaughan Williams)
Scherzo from Symphony No. 5 (Glazunov)
Last movement of the Clarinet Concerto (Finzi)
Concerto Antico (Richard Harvey)
Two hymn tune preludes (Eventide and Dominus Regit Me) (Vaughan Williams) -- managed to get around the ban on religious music at civil ceremonies with these two smile.gif
Symphony no. 1 for organ and orchestra, second movement (Guilmant)

After the ceremony we drank lots of champagne and listened to various tracks by The Divine Comedy smile.gif

Next time ( blink.gif ) I'm going for a beach wedding, probably in Hawaii, so I look forward to lots of hula hula music and slide guitars smile.gif lol

Which one's easier, because I 'm planning to learn either one of them tongue.gif

I wish to have the music of " The West Side Story" played in my wedding...

The music at my wedding was fab! I came in to the Wedding March from Le Nozze di Figaro, during the signing of the register we had the Bruckner Ave Maria and the Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin (had to get some Wagner in somewhere! We had the full proper choral version as found in Act 3), and the happy couple left to the Lefebure-Wely Sortie in Eb - completely bonkers, sounds like fairground music, and I think I just saw mrbouffant go pale at the thought of it.

Hymns were "Lord of all hopefulness", "Angel voices" and, um, something else I can't remember ph34r.gif

The more observant will notice that my wedding was a Mendelssohn-free zone.
andante_in_c
I came in to 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' and we left to the Widor Toccata. I can't remember what we had during the signing of the register, probably Bach. The hymns were 'Thy hand, O God has guided', 'Come down O love divine' and 'Lord of all hopefulness'.

Not at all. I enjoy/play Lefebure-Wely with the best of 'em biggrin.gif

At my mate's wedding, his missus entered to the strains of Sousa's "The Liberty Bell".. we waited for the giant foot to come and squash her - Monty Python style - but (sadly) it never did... blink.gif

Elvis Costello sung that version !

I had the march from Scipio on the way in and something from the Water Music on the way out - I can't remember which one - I told the pianist she could choose if she liked as she was nervous playing for a pianist's wedding! She said I was the most easy going bride she had ever come across! biggrin.gif

Ooh, you're giving me lots of ideas! I get married in July and am idly planning my music. The shortlist isn't exactly short though! Currently, all that is settled is that I'm not coming in to the traditional, nor are we leaving to the wedding march. Signing the register I'm leaning toward Jesu Joy and the Canon in D. Coming in maybe Grieg's Wedding day and exiting to Mozart's wedding march. Maybe. Hymns I'd like Lord of all hopefulness but I don't know about the other two. I have until May to decide!!!

Are you having an organist, pianist, ensemble or recordings? If organist, you may wish -- if you haven't already -- to ascertain the competency of the organist. There will be plenty of organists who might struggle with the Grieg (if there is indeed an organ transcription) for example..

Your ideas sound fascinating though.. how nice it would be for me to have a bride who actually knew something about music and made informed choices about the pieces for the ceremony.. !

Well said, mrbouffant! I've sung at weddings where the happy couple haven't dared stray from the very well known - this includes music for the entry of the bride, the signing of the register, the exit of the bride and bridegroom, and in their choice of hymns (usually ones where they've only looked at the first verse, not realising that later verses are NOT suitable for weddings!).

The church have a resident pianist who's pretty good judging by his Sunday offerings ohmy.gif) and they hire me an organist, so I hope he is good. We'll meet a couple of months before the day to discuss details! Very exciting! All the other choices are going onto a CD and will be played at the reception biggrin.gif

Reminds me of an anecdote from the FRCO AP and I know. He was discussing the choice of music for the wedding service once and the bride said she wanted "t'Hovis tune" during the signing of the register; she was most bemused when he asked which orchestra she had in mind biggrin.gif.

Funnily enough a superb organ transcription of the Dvorak 9th is now available from Barenreiter. It's not cheap but I've put it on my Xmas list in the hope that Father Christmas is feeling benevolent this year smile.gif
