So chuffed! Finally got my piano exam results, and got a pass with merit, 127 - 3 marks off a distinction!

I even managed to get full marks on the aural and i can't sing/tone deaf etc etc!! My scales though, I only made a tiny mistake, clipped another note half way through Eb Major I think, and she knocked off 3 marks and gave me 18. Is that how much you get knocked off for every mistake you make on stuff like that? Because she said they were all perfect, had good legato etc, that was the only thing..

Now, onwards to grade 5 !!

rolleyes.gif Congratulation! Laura, when will you plan for the G5 exam?? I got 130 for my G3 exam in Oct 2003 and I wish to take G5 exam but don't know when I am ready for that?? unsure.gif

Well done Laura, that's a great result.

Thanks everyone!

Mabel1218:

Congrats, you beat me by 3 marks! I guess I am ready for my Grade 5 in November-block, it depends if you feel comfortable. Do you feel ready to do it in the next lot of sessions? How long did it take you to prepare for your grade 3? No point entering if you feel too nervous. Grade 5 doesn't seem too hard - lots of scales etc, and the pieces are obviously more complex! But not that much more, I think it is probably just getting the up to speed that you would need to focus on.

Just out of curiosity: what happened to grade 4 unsure.gif?

Well done! I have just got my G3 saxophone results back. I got 130, distinction!

To Caroline:

wink.gif The G3 piano pieces I did in Oct 2003 were:
A2 - Zipoli Verso in F, from 'Sonate d'Intavolatura' Part 1,
B3 - C. Mayer Study in A minor, Op.340 no.2, and
C3 - Seiber Tango III (Argentine), from 'Easy Dances', Vol. 1. cool.gif
Laura7112
Caroline, I did
A1, Polognaise in G Minor
B3(?) Study in A minor
C3 Tango3 argentine

The best mark was in my worst piece, the one I hated to start with anyway, C3.

Well done khop14!! Is saxophone really hard to play? Someone said its impossible to get notes out at first!

AnotherPianist -

lol, hmm yes grade 4 got lost along with grade 1 and grade 2! So far grade 3 is my first, then grade 5, then whatever!

im taking grade 5 in november , do you know what pieces you would like to do yet laura?!
Laura7112
Hi, yep I think so anyway! Had a lesson this week. Want to do A3, its lovely but my fingering is kind of made up as I go along at the moment, so that will be my biggest thing to work on probably! Then, I guess the Etude for B section, because the others I just don't like the look of, and the piece doesn't seem too technically difficult. Third piece will be Bossa Nova of course, bring on the jazz!

You all sorted for them yet?
What's everyone else doing or has done, and what comments did they get to improve on them?

There's another thread somewhere where I posted (for Nat!) what one of my students did in March 04 and the remarks she got.

We learnt 6 pieces (2 from each group) and she made a choice a couple of weeks before the exam.

I'll try and find the thread and post.

I found it a bit hard at first, but after a couple of lessons I got the hang of how 2 blow etc. Now I find it fairly easy.

Nat - are u doing G5 piano? If u are, which pieces are u doing?

Laura - it's a topic called Grade 5 - what pieces have you chosen?

topic starter Natalie, and last added to on 25th April.

At the moment it appears to be on page 2 of Viva Piano.

Quite a long thread (started sometime in March) but quite a few comments about the grade 5 pieces.

In Cambridge a while ago we had a thing called the 'Grade-One-A-Thon' - teachers found an instrument they had never played before, had a 30 minute lesson, and then took the grade 1 exam 2 months later with no more lessons.

I didn't take part in it, but I did teach one of the participants - she never took the exam as she fell very ill, but I ended up having to spend 26 minutes of the 30 minute lesson teaching her how to get notes out, then 4 minutes showing her how the book I had bought her worked, so that she could learn the rest herself - she could play D major and C major within 3 days smile.gif

Anyone who plays a wind instrument already will find it easy, although they're definately going to have to give time to new mouthpieces and reeds on their original and new instruments, so that they can quickly switch over without having to adjust their embouchure too much

I'd love to see a TV series following something like that - it would be really interesting.

i find saxophone really easy but thats cause i played clarinet already!

I think that would be such a cool programme!
