Can anyone recommend some good "traditional-style" marches - brass band / military band repetoire.
I am a concert organist and always on the look out for new material. I'm very familiar with Eric Coates, Haydn Wood, Sousa, Kenneth J. Alford and so on, but I'm wanting something different.
I recently came across "Birdcage Walk" and "Hyde Park" by Arnold Steck, also "Barnard Castle" (by ?) I also heard a march entitled "Coniston" which I believe is one of a set of "Lakeland Marches"
I get the feeling that there are many such pieces written by Brass Band members, conductors etc., that don't get a general airing, perhaps beyond their own locality. I realize that I would have to seek permission to re-arrange for organ, but I'm used to that.
I've recently had permission to re-arrange "On Richmond Hill Ba'ht 'At" a fascinating combination of "Sweet Lass Of Richmond Hill" and "On Ilkely Moor Ba'ht 'At".
Any suggestions on these lines would be most welcome.
Thanks

An oldy, but Javaloyes lived till c. 1944 AFAIK, so still in copyright:
Javaloyes, "El Abanico".
The middle section was sung as a marching song, "You'd be far better off in a home".

OOOH that's wonderful.

Can I be a pest and ask for composer's please. No hurry
Whenver I play an organ concert whether in a church (in which case I ALWAYS play some marches and light music) or for electronic organ societies, I like to include, if possible, a tune that is relevant to the town/county in which I play. Marches are often a good source for this.
Thanks - and also for "El Abanico", kenm

That one had passed me by

Not to worry - I'll do a bit on investigative work at the PRS. But MANY thanks for the titles.
Have just found (today) a copy of "Holyrood" by Kenneth J Alford - midi file as well! so have put it through "Print Music" and obtained a full score.
Have fun a-carolling jonscott14:)

Christmas Joy - don't know that one
Christmas Carols - yes!!! I'm getting the pupils arriving with their Christmas Carol/ Christmas Song books in their hot little hands. So far, I've managed to avoid it.
