Full Version: Thinking Of Singing - Advice Needed

When I was younger I really loved singing, and was a very keen member of the choir at school, but never progressed beyond singing by ear. After my voice broke, I pretty much gave up.

Now, some thirty years later, and thinking about getting into singing again, perhaps with a local choir or singing group? My voice is completely untrained - should I think about having a few singing lessons first?

Would appreciate some advice!

Hi Booney

My advice would be to start with a local choir, to get used to the "feel" of singing again. Most choirs won't be worried that your voice is untrained - a chap who can read music and sing in tune will be very welcome!

A good place to find a local choir is British Choirs on the Net

If you decide you want to do more than that, you could look for a local teacher. That's the way I started - and I found that the choir conductor was a great source of advice (including recommending my teacher to me and subsequently becoming my accompanist too).

Best of luck

Cheers
