Well done Elmo!

I tried my new pieces (set by teacher Monday evening) last night and I can nearly play them already!!

Woohoo! First time it's taken less than a week to work out the rhythm/timing and get something almost tune-sounding.

(of course that probably means he just set easier pieces

but what the heck)
Well done snugglivixen. I seriously doubt that your teacher would set you easier pieces at this stage - I'd guess you're making stunning progress.

I thought I was going somewhere but now I think I am going backwards.
What makes you think that, Nicki? Are you sure it's not just that there's more tricky stuff to attack as you work through higher level pieces? Or is it that you're getting used to the sound of your playing at a higher level of skill than it used to be, so you need to be even better to sound good these days?
Don't forget, progress doesn't go in a smooth straight line up for anyone. Everyone gets flat patches, some of which can last for ages, before the result of your hard work kicks in and you suddenly jump forward again. And also, we tend to criticise ourselves a lot more than an outside listener (e.g. a teacher) might do. That's why it's important to listen to your teacher's opinion of your progress - they are the ones who are able to be objective about how you're getting on.
And then, as I'm sure Elmo will agree, it's a great feeling when the progress does kick in and you see yourself jumping forwards.
Cheers
