HI, my daughter (aged 11 - nearly 12) is looking to do her grade 8 singing - unfortunately there are no singing teachers within 100 miles of our house - so she does it all off her own back. She managed a distinction grade 5 and merit grade 6 1 1/2 years ago. What I am asking is whether anyone can recommend any pieces for this age, as needless to say we do not live near a music shop and so have to buy everything off the internexam et - so cant look at it all first. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

Hi Jacky
First thing I'd suggest is that you get hold of a book called "The Art Of Song" for Grade 8. It's published by Peters, and it has the vast majority of the lists A&B works. There's a book for high voice, one for medium and one for low voice, so choose the one that suits her best.
For the more modern works, she could possibly look at one of the Brittens in list D - either of the two from "Rejoice in the Lamb" are suitable for a child to sing or "That younge childe" from the Ceremony of Carols.
List C is more tricky - perhaps one of the Madeline Dring Shakespeare songs? Or the Gurney? Michael Head's Money O! is also a fun work.
I'd suggest having a scout round on Google to try and find sound clips of these songs, so you have a bit of an idea what will suit. I have some of these works in my shelves - PM me if you'd like me to loan you something to try out before you decide to invest.
Best of luck
Cheers

Hi Jacky
At the bottom left hand side of my response there's a tag called PM. Click on that and it'll take you to the Personal Message screen.
Alternatively click on my name where it's underlined, and that'll take you to the profile screen, from which you choose "Send a Personal Message", and then fill in the boxes.
And best of luck with the audit exam.
Cheers
