Erm, they were chosen to be on them?

OK maybe not so much the Paganini, but the Schumann....

Violinists have more than enough repertoire without having clarinet originals being transcribed for them. Silly if you ask me.

But the syllabus people didn't ask you did they. There is tons of music being transcribed. Does it really matter? No.
I'm absolutely with IL on this one. I've been disgusted for years at the number of arrangements and transcriptions in exam syllabuses for instruments which have rich original repertoires. Violin is a prime example. For many young players, probably especially those having rather short group lessons in schools and being entered for exams, music from an exam syllabus becomes the total range of music that they learn. I want it all to be of a high musical standard
and composed for the instrument they are playing by someone who understood that instrument.
That's quite apart from the fact that I don't actually
like the Schumann and my heart sinks when I'm asked to accompany them on any instrument! As an accompanist of course it's usually part of the job to conceal my feelings about the music I'm playing. Being a performing musician is part of the acting profession.
