I want to live in a piano shop! Can I come and live with you acp?!

Well, I'm living alone in a fairly large appartment, so I've got room left for a lady to come and join me, but don't blame me if you ever regret your decision; I'm an unbearable person.

The college I lived in during my undergraduate degree had a Steinway C in the practice room. I used to book it out the first slot of the day, 8 til 9, and play it with the lid up. That was worth getting out of bed for! I wrote the whole of my first piano sonata on it.

I'd love to have a go playing a Steinway grand. I've get to play a Bluthner grand quite often and that is pretty good.

I used to play Steinways regularly at college, not played any for 11 years! But the piano I really fell in love with at college was an Elisian grand piano. It was gorgeous. It has the same double action of a steinway, but it has so much meat behind it. If anyone gets a chance and a lottery win i strongly recommend an elisian. In fact I may buy one of them instead of a house

Hi PianoTench - welcome to the forums! Does your name mean you're a pianist who's keen on fishing, by any chance??!! Or is it a pun on PianoTuna??!!

I love playing the piano, though ironically since becoming a teacher I get very little time to practise now. The tench is after my pride and joy in my fish pond. Its my oldest fish and has moved with me from Essex to London to Newport and finally now in Derby. I am sure it is completely oblivious though.

The grand at the Forum users' concert in Woodford was an Elisian - I liked it, but found it a bit heavy...

My cousin lives in Palm Beach, Florida. Palm Beach in an island just off the coast where millionaires have their winter holiday homes. Anyway, my cousin and his family got friendly with a lady on the beach while walking their dogs or something. In conversation it emerged that my cousin's 13 year old son was learning to play piano. As soon as she heard this, the lady said that she just happened to have a Steinway in storage, and she would love them to use it, so she moved it into their house. While I was visiting I had a play on it. Needless to say, it was very very nice.

I'm lucky I've never had to pay for a piano in my life...in fact the only money that has been spent on poor Doris is a tune up when she first arrived

Never been tuned since and she's move house

I played C major scale on the one at the venue for the Leicester concert. Does that count. I would have played more but I can't play the piano.
I did once briefly play a Strad though......

I think he thought we were a bit crazy....none of us could play the piano. In the end he had to demonstrate it!

Steinways are not astronomical in price if you go to the trade auctions. You can buy decent one for between 5,000 and 7,000. Richard Reason has trade auctions every three months in Central london. He is an expert in this field and previously worked for Phillips Piano Auctions for many years. He will give honest impartial advice on every piano in his sales, a bit zanny bit I would recommend him to anyone. There are usually half a dozen Steinways in every one of his sales. You must set yourself a price limit, but you will be bidding against the trade and unlikely to be up agaist a private buyer.

Twice, the first time I played on a Steinway Grand but I believe that piano was more that 50yrs old. The second I played, it was a brand new one & I really love the tone & touch. I think I will need to wait until I get old before I can own one Steinway piano..& I think it is every pianist's goal to own one Steinway piano..

Here's my claim to fame - I once played the Steinway piano on the stage at the Royal Festival Hall, accompanying my school choir at the National Festival of Music For Youth. Hardly need to add that it was the best piano I've ever played! Incredibly responsive, and made me sound like a good pianist

I went into a piano shop I knew had a Steinway Grand in it. My friend told me about it a few days ago and she was excited for me knowing I always wanted to play on it. I went in there with my parents. There were other pianos there but I headed straight for the Steinway. Oh my god, even though it's a grand, and people say grands are harder to play than uprights because the hammers go against gravity to hit the strings as opposed to uprights, the Steinway had a most wonderful touch I ever experienced. However, if my parents were to get a Steinway for me, they'd have to remove the contents of the entire living room to fit a 6ft one in it.
We had a couple of Steinways, at Colleg, and Yes I did play them, but as a singer I prefer a Bluthner. The sound is more sympathetic to the voice, and the creamier tone of the Piano I find more attractive.
Give me a Bluthner over a Steinway anyday.
