I've been trying to submit two WIP recordings for the whole day, trouble is hubby has nobbled the upstairs PC and can I convert the files to a size I can email - no! Eventually They'll be something.

There are just some times when I think "technology" arghh, particularly when I cannot Install any of the files or libraries I need without admin priviledges and I'm just not given them.
sarah-flute
Technology is brilliant - until it stops working and you can't work out why dry.gif rolleyes.gif closedeyes.gif

Am I right in thinking you're teaching the bassoon these days, Neil?

Well, I was at the school (under protest of course laugh.gif ), but I don't teach there any more. Didn't have to teach oboe (would have been under even bigger protest!). I think it's daft they don't at least have double reed specialists (the teacher I covered for was a flautist). I've only taught clarinet and piano since.

I do enjoy playing the bassoon but it's not something I want to give too much time to.
sarah-flute
Ahh right.

I have a couple of recordings that I would like to put on the site: Poulenc - Flute Sonata, Clarke - Hypnosis.
Who do I send them to?

thanks.

Can't wait to hear your Hypnosis - I heard it at the Leicester forum concert and it was gorgeous wub.gif

The PM voting for this year's awards for Best Recording/Composition will be between the 7th and the 14th October (although that may change), so send your recordings to YetAnotherPianist before then if you want a chance of winning smile.gif. This will be followed by the two polls for the top five recordings/compositions.

Flutefanatic, there is one slight problem.

Unless you have specific permission from the composer (Clarke) or the composer's estate (Poulenc), or have paid for a MCPS licence, you can't make and publicise a recording of their works.

Works are in copyright, and perfomance right, until 70 years after the composer's death. So Gershwin or Holst would be OK, Clarke and Poulenc aren't.

There must be some folks who can contribute a new recording... it's been quiet for a while!

I would love to contribute something, but at the moment I don't think there's any way I can record myself sad.gif
I've listen to most of the recordings on the site though, and they're all fantastic!

Sarah, I've got a few of my LRSM pices that I'm currently editing for inclusion on the site. So in the near future you will get Bess of Bedlam, Hymne to God the Father, L'invitation au Voyage and Piangero la Sorte Mia. I wasn't so happy with Tuesday's recording of Exulatate Jubilate and Caro Nome. Unfortunately my Britten is still in copyright.

So something new in the pipeline.

I challenge forumites to listen to this and not tap their foot at the same time! biggrin.gif

Argh, I really want to listen to this but have so little room on my hard drive at the moment. MUST get organised!

This is correct, but it's not really a problem.

All you do is to declare to the MCPS and pay the 6.25% of the retail price of the CD.

The only problem is, is that you have to pay before you press them. sad.gif
Barry Thain
This isn't quite the whole story.

You can record whatever you like. Publishing it is the problem.

I have mentioned here before that I spoke to the MCPS about internet publishing and they were very clear in their advice.

If you post your clips on YouTube then YouTube is considered to be the publisher and you will not get in trouble. If you publish them on your own website then you are the publisher and run the very very small risk of being pursued for copyright infringement.

So if you send your recording to YAP, you will be in the clear but YAP could get into trouble.

If you want to share your recordings you can always post them to YouTube and put the links in the YouTube thread on this board.

Best wishes

barry

...and YAP (understandably) isn't willing to take that risk. So no recording can be put up that isn't out of copyright unless someone has pursued and been granted permission (as for, for instance, the flute duet that Nicki and APF recorded), so the situation remains as katyjay has stated it.

For those who follow the awards in the cafe, I have made the decision to delete the Favourite Composition category as there are only five compositions on the site at the moment. This means you can still vote for your favourite compositions in the Favourite Recording category, which will happen between the 14th and the 21st October (the last one). So if you haven't got a recording on the site and therefore want to have a chance of winning this category, or if you already have a recording on the site and want to submit a new one, then please send them to YetAnotherPianist before the 14th.

Why is this in the events section? blink.gif

Anyhow, I know several forum members have recordings on YouTube. If you want me to link to them off the forum recordings site, send me the link and I'll add it to the site in the appropriate section.

In particular, if you want people to find it and maybe vote for it to be 'Best Recording', sending me the link is a good way of publicising it - if you have a couple of recordings of which you are proud amongst your demonstrations of a C major scale, this might be a good idea.

NB For YouTube links, it doesn't matter if it's in copyright, either - it's their legal responsibility not mine as they're hosting the recording, I'm only linking to the page.

The forum recordings site closes on Monday. You have two days to download anything you want from the site.

Thanks to Katyjay, the diploma support material has been relocated to http://www.forumconcert.co.uk/diplomas/ smile.gif.

This thread can be unpinned - the site closed months ago.
hello_cello
how come it was closed i only just realised sad.gif huh.gif

Probably because it became unpopular and therefore YAP decided to close the site.

I've asked one of the mods to unpin this thread.
