Hi,

After much deliberation, AP and I have decided to cough up for some hosting for the forum recordings website. Following a thrilling weekend of PHP and SQL, the new site is up with more bells and whistles than one can shake a proverbial stick at biggrin.gif.

The site is now on a permanent web server, rather than my home computer, at http://www.forumrecordings.co.uk. Any technical problems, let me know and I'll debug the site accordingly - I'll be very suprised, albeit pleasantly, if it works flawlessly biggrin.gif.

One of the new features is that an email can be sent to whomever has submitted a recording whenever a comment is left by it. If you would like this feature to be enabled, please send me an email from the address to which you'd like notifications to be sent (not a PM, my box would fill up very quickly wink.gif ) and I can enable it. The email address will not be published, and will only be visible to me; I can also disable the feature at any time on your request.

Each person now has their own page - towards the bottom of the main page, there's a 'View all pieces performed/composed by' search box smile.gif.

Finally, there are two new pieces from AP to launch the site:

- The Gigue from Handel's 'Suite No. 7 in G Minor, HWV 432'
- Lyadov's Bagatelle No. 1 from 'Trois Bagatelles, Op. 53'

Enjoy smile.gif.

Agreed, many thanks.

nice one YAP and AP, and thanks for spending your own cash on such a great addition to the forums for all of our benefit.

I must admit I had some difficulties visiting the previous site, and never went back, but this site seems to be great - I've been listening to piece after piece. Well done you performers, too!

snuglivixen
WOW that's great thanks!

How do I get a comments page? I notice everyone else has one.

Guess I should really get something better up there now. unsure.gif
anakrron
That looks great! biggrin.gif Thanks for doing that for the rest of the forum.

Thanks everyone smile.gif.

Just a quick reminder - I've only had one person take me up on the offer so far, but if you want to be sent an email when someone leaves a comment on one of your pieces, let me know.

Snuglivixen - you've got mail....
Noodelz
Oooh! Like this.

Thank you thank you thankyou!!!!!
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Wow! Thanks AP and YAP!
Oddball
Nice one, APYAP.... smile.gif

Aw - this is soooo good of you both - thank you smile.gif !

Ps - thanks for putting up the Lyadov & Handel, AP - lovely! (I'm pleased my Lyadov isn't sounding too dissimilar from yours - same tempo too - so that's boosted my confidence enormously - not that I'll be able to do it justice in the exam dry.gif !!)
Boo Radley
Fantastic! Now I won't have a problem remembering the address. smile.gif I really must get myself a microphone now to record myself. I really can't decide what piece to do though. The Nyman is out because he's still alive, the Wedding Day at Troldhaugen is over 6 minutes long and the Alla Turca, the Nocturne in E Flat and the Pathetique 2nd mmt are all a bit famous. ph34r.gif

*Round of aplause* and a very big thankyou to YAP and AP for this brilliant site -and for hosting all our recordings!

A personal thankyou for putting up my compositions and recording!
(Carnival de venise, Fanfare and Largo, Storm and Dances for trumpet.)

I dont know what the forums would do without you YAP and AP

So? I'd still be happy to hear it smile.gif.

Ooh really? Ok then. *starts furiously practising rusty quintuplicated semiquavers* biggrin.gif I tried recording snippets on my new Mp3 player's microphone but it sounds awful when played back. I must get a mic, must get a mic, must get a mic. . . .*fades away*

Where's the voices part on that website, where people recorded themselves speaking? Has that been deleted off? Or is it somewhere else?

I still use a tape recorder and then transfer into audacity. Not that good sound quality, but at least I can then blame the duff noises on the machinery rather than my singing wink.gif

Hehe great plan. Maybe I should dig out my old gramophone recorder! cool.gif
YetAnotherPianist
'I didn't really go wrong there, the wax cylinder just didn't record it properly' biggrin.gif.

CE - we didn't transfer the speaking across to the new site. Partly because it would have needed another database setting up, and partly because it was a temporary feature to accompany a specific thread.

OK, I understand. smile.gif

Fantastic site - just discovered it!
*goes off to find something to submit*
YetAnotherPianist
OK, Thouston singing Bizet's Seguidille is now on the site smile.gif.
YetAnotherPianist
Someone's passing random filenames to get.php on the recordings website, it's not anyone on here is it?
MattD
It was me YAP, check the PM wink.gif
YetAnotherPianist
OK, phew biggrin.gif.

The website is now more secure, courtesy of MattD giving me a fright laugh.gif.

Wow, this is fantastic! Thank you for doing this!

I'm going to go through and listen to everything on there tomorrow, and leave comments biggrin.gif

It's offline pending double-checking the copyright dates on it; fingers crossed it should be back soon smile.gif.

It's back biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

YAP, just out of interest, did you ever receive the recording I did of Vivaldi's "Un Certo Non So Che"? Some long time back I asked if you'd be able to add the piano part - which I expect you wouldn't have had time to do yet anyway.

Just double-checked, the piano reduction was by Theodore Baker who died in 1934, and the copyright on the music was 1929.
YetAnotherPianist
Fab, thanks for checking that. I have the audio you recorded, and I brought the accompaniment home with me from Glasgow so I should get to do it in the next few weeks smile.gif.
violin-ann
Hi YAP, not meaning to rush you or anything, but did you receive the Handel Sarabande (arranged by Oddball) or the Badinerie or the parts for the 2nd half of the Mozart K195? If you need any parts from me again or if I owe you any, let me know! Sorry, I'm getting old! biggrin.gif
Oddball
Eek! forgot about the Sarabande! Must send that onto jane.... unsure.gif

No rush, my recording equipment is Archie-damaged, and I have to sort that out before I can do anything more!!!
YetAnotherPianist
Jane, I meant to say - the recording you sent was fine once I'd done noise removal on it.
YetAnotherPianist
New addition to the site, courtesy of Oddball: a video of him playing Chopin's Nocturne in C# Minor smile.gif.

It won't let me watch it..

Thanks for all the time that has gone into this too.
Planning to try to send something soon.
