I did my G8 just over a week ago. I did

A: Allemande from Partita No 4 - J S Bach
B: 1st Movt. from Sonata in F minor - C P E Bach
C: Arabesque No 1- Debussy.

Tips? Enjoy yourself. The happier you are, the better you will play. Concentrate on making it sound beautiful and as long as it's authentic, you can't go wrong.

Good luck!

hey, i did my grade 8 last month, i did the scarlatti for A, the mozart for B and the Mayerl for C - the Mayerl one was my favourite i think, it could be cool for your A2 performance?
Trebor
I am currently working on the Bach Allemande (after learning and discarding the Scarlatti), the Mozart sonata, and Liszt's Dem Andenken Petofis.

Yup, I'm doing exactly the same pieces as Edwardo, after (like Trebor) discarding the Scarlatti for Allemande and also discarding Liszt for Arabesque.

I sat my grade 8 last month playing the following:

1) Scarlatti
2) Mozart
3) Liszt

I enjoyed the Liszt the best in the end. It's a real performance piece. Unfortunatly during my exam i was interupted by an old lady (see seperate thread). Scarlatti is a fun piece although i found i had to be extra careful with my timings during the runs alternating between the LH and the RH. The Mozart was a longish piece with varying dynamics, it sounds really good when played on a nice piano.

raindrop
- Bach
- Haydn (Sonata in E flat major)
- Poulenc

I liked the Poulenc very much. I was planning to play the Arabesque first, but it's almost 4 years ago I played this piece and my teacher wanted to let me play something new. I was very surprised though to see this piece in the list, I've never thought it was a g8 piece...

My exam was last monday (Nov 28th) and hoping to get some good results hehehe

A - JS Bach prelude and fugue in A minor - this one rocks
B - CPE Bach allegro assai.
C - Schumann Intermezzo - this rocks as well

I'm having a look at Scarlatti, Bach Allemande, Mozart, and Chopin Polonaise in C minor. The list will probably change before I get round to doing the exam but it's good to play pieces at that level even if the exam is a long way away.

Good luck to anyone taking exams.

Not entering at the mo' but am learning the Scarlatti, the Mozart and the Schumann.

Am liking the look of the two Bach ones as well, may have a dip at a later date rolleyes.gif

Hey,

I did my grade 8 piano just over a week ago.

A: Shostakovich (this is great once you get into it, especially the fugue)
B: Beethoven
C: Liszt

I wanted to go out with a bang, but the sight reading and aurals weren't particularly good that day. Ah well.

Good luck to anyone taking it! biggrin.gif

I did my grade 8 piano about three weeks ago and got a merit. I got 28 for the bach prelude and fugue, 28 for the Mozart allegro moderato, and 28 for the Mayerl Autumn Crocus. I think the most important thing is to enjoy it and even if your not, to look like you are. It definitely helped me. happy.gif

xue li

hallo.

A3- Scarlatti
B1- CPE Bach
C4- Liszt

i have my exam on 13th August 2005...maybe because i am in Malaysia. i have got a "merit" for my grade 8 practical...

i cant realy play all the notes for C4-Liszt. from bar 37 onward, the mood changed, and for the last beat(triplet) of bar 38, i cant play the three notes well without slipping. the worst comes when the melody suddenly goes down from bar 43 to 45.

then for bars 51 to 54, the left-hand tremolos are...difficult to play, and "dim." there makes it more difficult, so i just use the soft pedal during examination, thats why i get the lowest marks for this piece, only 25/30!

i rather dont think about it anymore, anyway, i have got my results.haha!

P/s who can tell me what is the next grade? my teacher asked me to take the "performer assesment"...i dont realy know what it means...then when can i go to diploma?
