Full Version: Diploma Equivalence?

I have been considering entering for the LTCL - Trinity colleges' equivalent to the LRSM- in the Spring because:

1) I don't want to wait until July to play and then Sept/Oct to have exam feedback

2) The fees are much lower and this would help financially if i were to fail. Then try with the LRSM in July using the LTCL failure feedback.

Also the fees for the LLCM (London College) is only 140 pounds!!!

Do they all equate to the same level of playing? Why is the cost so different?

If you have the LRSM is there any point in collecting others, or vice versa?

blink.gif i think i'm heading towards a what's the point in playing the piano at all? But i won't - too much practice this week may be the cause.

Anyway, you get the idea...

In theory the L level diplomas from all three are equivalent in terms of technical and musical demands, there are some variants in the syllabi though in terms of programme notes, playing time, viva voce, stagecraft assessed and so on. I don't know why the costs vary so much, maybe someone else will.

As I say, the exact format of the exams across different boards do differ slightly, and you can learn new repertoire to broaden you experience (and four more letters after your name!) so if you have the time and money(!) go ahead.
