I have assumed the drean would use the usual Baroque fingering but then again maybe not! I shall have fun trying it out when it arrives. You could always e-mail the EMS shop and ask about the fingering? smile.gif

Well I hope you enjoy your Dream - just looked at your profile and you are the same age age as my son!
Happy Xmas.
BTW he isn't getting a recorder for Xmas - probably a gameshark.

I've got a Dream descant and it seems to have the normal Baroque fingering. Its main difference to modern recorders is that it has got a much wider bore. I bought it on Ebay, but the lady I bought it from actually belongs to this forum too so hopefully she'll be able to give you more info if she's around smile.gif

It's based on a Van Eyck recorder but it will play through two octaves. it has a rather more open and robust tone than most baroque recorders. The version we sell has double holes but a single hole version is also available - best to make sure you get the double hole one!

B flat definitely needs 1-3 4-6 but that of course is quite common.

Is a plastic one much different from a wooden?
have you tried -23 4-- For B flat?or 1-2 -56?

Way off, Ben - do those fingerings work on any recorder? The first one is almost B natural and the second is almost A (did you mean 1-3-56? that one is way sharp and is on most recorders I've played, I don't understand the SRP's sudden obsession with it)

the wooden one is much nicer than the plastic as you would expect. The plastic / wood version is a reasonable compromise IMO.

I do not like 1-3-56 It works on aulos trebles.
and the -234 I got as an A sharp B trill.
What are the SRP's??
Ben.

Society of Recorder Players - for some reason the 1-3-45 B flat fingering is very much in vogue in their ranks at the moment. I guess it must work on certain recorders.

I believe it is based on a Renaissance bore but uses the baroque fingerings more of us are familiar with and is available with either single or double holes (in the wooden version). I've tried both the wooden and the plastic versions. Both seemed to require a huge ammount of air to maintain tone. The plastic one had a much weaker sound than the wood but appears good value in its price bracket. I didn't purchase either, I mostly play in small ensembles and didn't think the tone would blend with any of our existing instruments.
