Hi! Was just wondering if anyone else needs more hours in the day 2 fit all their practise in and extra activities? I do loads of extra activitities and I hardly have any time for practise.

I do! I find I end up having a rota for my instrument practice! Playing 4 instruments at Grade 8+ standard and learning another means I could never practice enough of every intrument each night after work. It's so frustrating!!

yes, perhaps a whole month of extra hours would suit me well enough! by the time i even get home from school, it's already 6pm. As for work, it's already been "canceled" out from my schedule because it's too hectic (ok, my mom made me quit). What I usually end up doing is working late at night and practicing early in the morning . . . calling for crankiness when the cycle starts all over again.

Tell me about it! I do a full time MSc, Tae Kwon Do three times a week, dancing once a week and I feel like I spend the rest of the time on the train going between these activities. I live in a hall of residence where I can't play the flute because it would annoy the neighbours and where I don't have access to a piano, and I would never inflict my violin playing on anyone else, so I can only practice at my mum's house on a weekend, which is very annoying (at least I can do my grade eight theory work in my room in the hall).
As an undergraduate I was at a college which had a lovely music room with a gorgeous Steinway C. However, you had to book it out and sometimes it was hard to get it at the times you wanted it. I like to play when I feel inspired not when I feel I have to. However, booking it out at eight in the morning (the earliest we were allowed) was a great incentive to get up!
I don't know how I used to fit it all in!

4 Hours a day on the Piano was recommended by Leschetizky (or one of his compatriots) -
FOR SCALES ALONE!

- I think you could add Arpeggios in that as well!. (I was studying Classical Guitar at this time and was quoted in Classical Guitar Magazine on the subject of "Scales for Guitar")
Personally I think you need 2 hours a day on the Piano (total) to progress well. I would say 15-20 mins Scales (or HANON Studies) 10 mins on Arpeggios and the rest on your pieces. Other times of the day can be devoted to Theory studies etc. Everyone has there own method of course. My Father, for example, has 2½ hours a day on the piano...but just plays pieces and nothing else. each to there own!
