I'm taking my mock GCSE Spanish speaking test tomorrow and I was just wondering if anyone knew some useful phrases that I could use to give me time to think / to impress my teacher. In English we might say 'right', or 'ok' , or 'let me think' or 'what do you think?'. Also, how would you say: 'Please could you repeat the question?' ?.

This might seem stupid but I'd really like to do well!

is it "Puedes repetir la pregunta por favor?"

Sounds about right! Thanks! Do you know anything else I could say?

Emma - don't worry, especially as it is a mock. We didn't have language mocks for the speaking, but I am sure your teacher will be able to help you for the real thing with some useful phrases. I am sure you're well prepared and will do well though, so good luck!

Ooh, I take GCSE Spanish too. My teacher is, uh, in polite terms not a particularly good teacher and we're moving through the syllabus at a sluggish rate.

Anyway, I suppose you can say "Pues...", "Vale...", "Bueno...", "Muy bien", "Vamos a ver" or kind of repeat the question, like if you were asked "Describe tu casa", you can repeat, "¿Mi casa? Si, es..." etc (not a very good example, but you get my jist). Don't worry though; in any case you're bound to do better than me (if that's any comfort!) seeing that I've done no Spanish orals for the past year. ph34r.gif

Oh, and if you want to re-ask the question it might be better to use the usted form, so "Puede repetir la pregunta por favor". tongue.gif Not too important though.
