Hello, I need some advice on the piano syllabus for grade 8.

My piano teacher has suggested I take grade 8 and I am really pleased , but also a bit hesitant, as I took it three times in the dim and distant past, at and before university and work got in the way! I failed due to lack of preparation and nerves and am determined to pass this time! The last time was nearly 10 years ago and the syllabus has changed.

Can someone tell me if my theory grade 5 certificate, 1989, is still valid, or do I need to take it again? Also, do you have to do scales in contrary motion, because the scale book doesn't say so and my teacher says she'll check, but she's sure I need to play them in contrary motion as well!

I don't think you have to take your grade 5 theory again!

ABRSM Grade 8 does not require contrary motion scales (thankfully).
