Full Version: Exams...again
hey, i did my grade 8 piano in november and got the result today - i passed but only with 113. i got 25, 25 and 23 in my pieces, but 14 in scales, 14 in sightreading and 12 in aural. my teacher thinks i should take it again but i really dont know. just wondered what you all thought - any suggestions?

Why, would he want you to do it again?
For me. it would be moving on time.
Why on earth would you take it again? A pass is a pass no matter what your score is. High passes are harder to achieve in the higher grades so I wouldn't worry that you've not done well enough. When I take grade 8 I'm not even expecting to pass so you should be really proud of yourself.
Anyway, congratulations & just ignore your teacher.

Passing Grade 8 is a real achievement but there is far more to life than exams.
If you need a Merit or Distinction to get you further in your musical education then I'd say, of course, have another go. If you don't, personally I'd rejoice that you got through first time and move on.

Even if you only got just over 100, it still means you've passed. Edwardo (Viva Piano) got one mark more than you and he's pleased!

Well done! I wouldn't resit if I were you - after all, you had two merits and a high pass for your pieces, so you would be retaking the exam because of scales, aural & sightreading - not worth it!
Well Done!! I don't think theres any point in resiting if you've clearly passed..not 100 or something.

I don't see why you should take it again. I think 113 is a good pass result! By the way well done on passing, that's a very good achievement!

That's excellent. Ive been fumbling about with the whole learning my grade 8 pieces for two years, which meant changing pieces etc and I'd be over the moon with 100! Well Done. I'd go for your diploma now rather then resit grade 8. A pass at diploma is better than a distinction at grade 8 surely??
