Too late to pick up another instrument, poss cello, lessons plus independent practice would be the weapon of choice as my violin is weak and im unable to correctly read music (i translate first)? I'm 23 and at uni....

Parents are not always correct! Go for it if you want to, it should be about what you want to do!

Absolutely echo what Saxlover has said.
Started having singing lessons at 35, piano re-started at 38, recorder re-started at 38, violin started at 38.....
And jolly well NOT too old for any of it!
And if anyone suggests I am I'll sulk!

At 23, you're entitled to follow your own feelings and ignore parents. You might just find you can surprise them in a wee while - I did. There have been plenty of threads about how old even quite famous musicians were when they started to play. I'm forty and my dexterity is continuing to improve.

If I listened to parents my music-loving days would be over!
