Can anyone help me fine a clarinet teacher in Glasgow. I'm having terrible trouble finding somebody. The one or two names I have been given seem to be out of date!

Have you tried

The RSAMD might be able to give you a list of contacts - and even if these all turn out to be unsuitable, these might in turn know someone. I'm afraid I only know a cello teacher and a harpsichord teacher there.

You can also try the universities in Glasgow. Glasgow and Strathclyde universities have music departments and will know of instrumental teachers in the area. Good luck with the clarinet.

Thanks for your very helpful comments, unfortunately, I have still drawn a blank. It's amazing how difficult it is to find a teacher. Wouldn't you think that in a large city like Glasgow it would be quite easy? It's not the Isle of Skye. It wasn't this difficult to find a piano teacher, although I went through 2 or 3 before finding the right one for me.

Oh Randall, don't give up! Try asking at your music shop, as they may well have a list of local teachers. Your piano teacher may also know of local teachers of other instruments. Another alternative is to speak to the music department at Glasgow and Strathclyde universities, as Neil said. Whilst their staff would probably be reluctant to take on an external beginner, they may well know the local scene, or have a student or two who would be willing and able to teach you.
