Hey Everyone,
I'm Matt and i'm 19 and I was just wondering if anyone could recommend me a good viola to start learning with? I know people will say 'spend the most' but any other suggestions?

If you look through old threads on this forum you will see many people recommending gliga violas (mostly the gems 2 model). I have no connection with Liz at elida trading, but have bought a gems 2 viola for my daughter for Christmas from her. Our viola teacher (who discretely pre-viewed it) was very impressed saying it was a lovely instrument and good value for money. There are cheaper and more expensive ones in the range too.

there's a whole discussion board devoted to strings, called Viva Strings. You'll see plenty of discussions there about choices of violas, and other important life-or-death decisions...

hi,
It may be a bit late now, but I just purchased a 151/2 inch Gems 2 viola from liz at Elida trading and it sounds extremely nice, sent on approval, with other models and several bows. Can't reccommend Elida trading highly enough, answered all my queries and sent me a viola within hours of it arriving from Romania.

Neither can I. Personally I can't think of any other mail order service that offers such personal care and attention to detail. As for Gliga instruments; they are second to none for price and the quality you get for your money.
