My husband bought me a trombone for Christmas. I haven't played for about 10 years, and am so excited. I've played a bit, and though I'm rather shaky, I can still 'feel' how to play. Going out to get some music tomorrow, so if anyone can recommend some nice basic pieces, that would be great.

Yay! What kind of trombone is it? Would it be worth getting a position chart or can you remember them?

(I'm getting mine in the next few months!)

I'm quite amazed by just how much I can remember! I've played through a few Christmas carols, using voice sheet music, and while it's not smooth, I can find my way round the trombone pretty well already, and my tone is starting to improve. I think I can remember most of the positions, and my ear is fairly good, so I'm tuning in quite quickly.

I've been looking for some digital downloads, as the music shop in my local town is closed till Thursday, but I'm having trouble tracking anything down.

Husband is already regretting purchase. I don't think he'd realised just how loud it can be! :-)

(Moo ha ha!) Glad it's all coming back to you! Well only one more day to wait, for now you should practise your fff playing especially when your husband is around wacko.gif

err...basic, good pieces....

have you tried a piece called the acrobat, by J.A Greenwood? i played it a while ago, and i thought it was a lot of fun to play. it has lots of glisses and is definitely a trombone piece. however, i'm not sure what you mean by 'basic piece'. if its any consolation, the piece comes woith a trombone and piano part, and also printed in bass and treble clef. best of luck on your trombone, because they're definitely loud, and if you know how to play one (you obviously must), it can sound great at the same time!

still, enough rambling. look up the acrobat, because i found it a lot of fun and quite a head turner too!

Thanks, I'll look for it.

I'm starting with some grade one and two pieces, which I'm moving through pretty quickly, just to build back up again. I'm having lots of fun. I've ordered a practice mute, lol!

Is that the one that starts with a gliss from 6 to 1 followed immediately by a gliss from 1 > 6 and another 6 > 1?
