Are there any orchestral percussion players or kit players on this forum? or harpist?

If so, what board do you sit, Guildhall or AB. How many of you have your own instruments? and how do you carry everything to an exam?

My head of music uses Guildhall for drum kit, because AB don't do drum kit exams. He owns a home music school though so exam are held at his home so he doesn't need to move the kit.

Have you got cases for each of the drums?

I play percussion at uni, but haven't sat exams (because I have no idea what I'm doing!!). I own some of the smaller instruments - triangle, tambourine, castanets, finger cymbals etc. There's a glock and xylo at uni, and I borrow the timps. Anything we don't own, can't borrow and the med school won't pay for, we have a keyboard to fill in blink.gif We have a drummer who provides extra cymbals when required!

I play kit and a little percussion. I am thinking of taking grade 7 drum kit with Trinity this term. Trinity have the best pieces and technical requirements, although Rockschool is becoming more popular for pop/rock drummers. However, they are not as rigorous and the set pieces are unrealistic compared to what the average studio drummer would be playing...they don't offer enough variation in genre etc whereas Trinity encourage soloing, composition (in fact I think this is compulsory) and world music played on kit (latin, set dances etc). I really don't think the Trinity syllabus could be any better!
I have my own kit and cymbals, orchestral stuff I borrow from my school (marimba, xylophone, marching, timps etc). For an exam, I think people take their own stuff but the centre will probably ask if you are doing an exam on a big instrument!
