Did I suggest looking at http://www.amateurorchestras.org.uk/ ?

The site is arranged in arbitrary regions, and if you're anywhere near the boundary between two it's worth looking in both. The problem with most amateur orchestras for a flute player is that they won't allow more than one wind player to a part. Apart from my elementary orchestra I only know one other orchestra in about a 20-mile radius that allows multiple wind players on one part, and they may have a limit. One result is that the standard of wind players in amateur orchestras that give concerts tends to be well above Grade 8. Have you considered looking for a concert band instead? In this area (West Berks) there are quite a number, at varying standards, and they are usually happy to have multiple flutes, especially if one or more also play piccolo.

I eventually got a flute seat in one orchestra by going along with my viola, which I've never played very well, sitting at the back of the section doing my best, and taking my flute and piccolo along every week so that if one of the regulars was missing I could offer to play the missing part.

Good hunting!
