Hey, blink.gif HAPPY NEW YEAR 2 EVERYONE
I've been looking @ the grade 8 piano syllabus over the hols. I can nearly play the 1st part of the moxart sonata - its great fun. I was gonna buy the CD to help me, but its so expensive seen as I might not take the exam. Can anyone tell me how fast, like a metronome marking. I know it says allegro, but I think i'm doing it too fast.

I also love the lizst C:4 - just wondering whether its me or not, but I can't play one hand loud, & the other sofly, like on the first page. I've only been playing the piano a year - any tips on how to do each hand different dynamis??

Thanks

Regarding Mozart, you can't play it too fast otherwise you will not be able to get the hemi-demi-semi's in correct timing, practise it VERY slowly first.

Regarding the Liszt however, it just requires a different touch in each hand. You say you've only played a year, that is probably your problem i.e. lacking some technique, one problem is what you say; varying dynamics with each hand

IMO I'd do Grade 4/5 first (trust me, I know what I'm talking about! rolleyes.gif )

The speed on in the selected exam pieces book is quaver 116.
I managed to get the note learning done relatively quickly but right now it's not coming together well for me. 2 weeks to go and whether I enter or not hangs on this piece. My teacher is planning that my whole lesson this week is going to be concentrating on sorting this out.

No offence meant, but to be attempting Grade 8 pieces after a year may be a bit ambitious unsure.gif

For the Mozart it gives a metronome mark (a quaver = 116, I think), although do start slower and work up. For the Liszt do hands separately. The first section is tricky since there's not a lot to work with, but since it's a short piece, it's still very important.

I 100% agree actually. Playing the "keyboard" (if there is a difference" I doubt is any advantage to piano playing, especially at Grade 8
