I've noticed on some peoples post that they've been getting excellent marks on some of their exam results, like 29 and 30/30 biggrin.gif What does an examiner look for to give such a good mark? Is it things like tone, and technical things, or musicality and expressiveness?

It's everything isn't it - technically faultless (or almost) & performed musically. A performance rather than a piece of music dry.gif

All of those things together!

Basically, you listen to me play a piece, and then you don't play it like that. wink.gif

Have a look at These Music Exams (which incidentally I notice is now the updated version on the website). It tells you how the sections of the exam are marked. For those sort of marks it's just an extra bit of sparkle they're looking for too, something special, I heard someone once say that examiners were told to award 30 if Askenazy couldn't have played it bettter wink.gif.

I'm sure you don't really mean that biggrin.gif Have you got a recording on forumrecordings.co.uk? I'm sure I saw the word sax in one of the names. Could have been saxophonist though. huh.gif
saxlover
I mean it from the bottom of my heart. No, none of my recordings are on there. I had compositions on there but I have had them taken off. smile.gif

But aren't you grade 8 standard? ohmy.gif Thats got to account for something biggrin.gif

AnotherPianist
Nat that's not true, you're very good at playing otherwise you wouldn't have achieved what you have smile.gif.

Without wishing to turn this thread into another one about me, no I am not grade 8 standard. I have passed it yes, but am not that good.

The End.
