I'm using cello in my intergrated assignment for gcse, and according to my friend who plays cello the lowest note a cello can play is the C belowe middle C, but according to my sibelius it can go an octave below that....can someone please clear this up?

The lowest note on the cello is the second C below middle C, written on the second leger line below the bass stave. The lowest note on the viola is the C below middle C.

Good luck with the assignment. smile.gif

Your friend plays the cello and she doesn't know that the lowest note is 2 octaves BELOW middle C. ohmy.gif

Sibelius is right, your friend is wrong.

oh good, I was worried because my plan involves lots of lower notes! I did think C below middle C seemed a bit high..

Have a look at:

www.dolmetsch.com/musictheory29.htm

to see the notes the cello strings are tuned to.

How red will your friend become when she realises the misinformation she gave you. ohmy.gif

You're lucky having Sibelius!
