Collegues,

the music service I work for is now in full "review" mode after signing up to the Music Manifesto. Hurray!
It is absolutely clear though that significant resources will be focussed on the provision and introduction of Wider Opportunities (group activities) initiatives at mainly primary level. The expectation is that this will result in group activities pushing through to secondary level in a way not seen before.

If you, like me, believe that individual lessons, strongly linked with ensemble activities, are one of the most productive ways of enjoying and learning an intrument then you need to be worried. Join this forum and contribute because we need to speak up loudly and strongly, otherwise all that you have worked so hard for may be swept away.

I'm not quite sure I understand this

I work for a music service and we have wider opportunities, and my primary and secondary school instrumental teaching is in groups. It's not until grade 6 or so that some have individual lessons anyway, and that's not everybody

What do you mean? Are you suggesting schools that want peris to give individual lessons aren't going to be allowed to if they sign up to this? Or what? Please explain.

For anybody who wants to read it, here's the link to the actual manifesto:
