Yes Il Cannone...its coming over from Italy for the occasion....hmmm wonder if he'll get it down to one string at the end of the performance?? laugh.gif

Here's the detail from the RAM site:
Maxim Vengerov Plays Paganini’s 'Cannone’
Maxim Vengerov violin
Igor Levit piano
Mozart Adagio K261
Beethoven Sonata no 7 in C minor, op 30 no 2
Paganini Cantabile
A truly special event rounds off the ‘Paganini in London’ festival. Maxim Vengerov will perform this entire programme on Paganini’s famous ‘Cannone’ violin. This Guarneri instrument, which is maintained by the City of Genoa, is making a very rare visit to Britain for the festival.

Maxim focusses on imagery to develop musicality, rather than technical issues, usually, in his masterclasses, and he can be somewhat of a clown to get these ideas across. The students are handpicked and will be of a high standard....he will not play much (if at all) himself.

Tickets are going fast!

Usually post grads or at least 3rd or 4th year students who are also members of the Royal Academy Soloists - a somewhat elite group of players who already play to a high enough standard to become either soloists when they graduate, or orchestral leaders.

That will be amazing, I have no doubt!

Interestingly enough we were watching a video of one of his masterclasses in AS Music just a week or so ago. The students in that one ranged from about 8 - 17 I seem to remember from various music schools.

He focuses almost entirely on the interpretation and it was crazily intense. Quite strange and creepy if it's not what you're used to.

Yes his approach is quite different from most people and he concentrates on imagery to create musicality and very little on technique. And he really does act the clown a lot too, so he can break down the tension.

Which masterclass was this? Was it the one with a young Chloe Hanslip?

Here is a special treat for all Maxim masterclass fans. You can watch one of Maxim's masterclasses on line Here. It's 50 minute programme.

Look down the list of programmes and pick the one that says "Maxim Vengerov" (obviously). If you click on the BB link at the side it is better quality than the SB link but you will most likely need broadband for this.

You also have to watch an advert first before the programme starts.

The programme is in Dutch but once Maxim comes on he speaks in English and there are Dutch subtitles.

There is also a button to click at the bottom of the small screen and it will enlarge to fit your screen.

And as if that wasn't enough, the real treat is...if you look closely (well, you don't have to look too closely actually), you can see me in the audience laugh.gif
sarah-flute
ooooh how exciting!

will have to leave this doing while I finally go get myself some headache medicine.

thanks for sharing, Jane! smile.gif

I barely remember it so can't laugh. I don't think I was really paying much attention to it, I was either talking to Jon or doing my Spanish homework.

It probably wasn't even that funny, I laugh at almost everything and am easily amused!
