It's my birthday today (not that 47 is anything to really shout home about, but hey!)

Eek, just seen the time. David is taking me out for something to eat, but I haven't made Nils' tea yet. Oh well, he'll just have to come to Macdonalds with us too!

DeCapo, We've reverted to "Plan B" - David's just nipped off to get Chicken and Chips from the Chip Shop for Nils (oh what a good mother I am ) I'm not sure about the recipe book/larder combo just yet - I think I'd rather be at home supervising Nils - I remember what Jason managed to do when let loose in the kitchen (eek). I had a nice phone call from him this morning, and he has started a job, and seems very happy, which is lovely to hear. He's working very near where Jo.Clarinet held the Concert last September from the sounds of things.

Individual pizzas with roasted artichoke, sundried tomato and 3 cheeses
followed by
Salmon fillet on a bed of creamed leeks, with a hollandaise and prawn sauce, with green beans and very crunchy roast potatoes
followed by fench apple tart with cream, or creme fraiche or ice cream ( or all three knowing this lot)
followed by coffee and miniature backlava

Ooh, thank you very much everyone, what a lovely collection of kind messages. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I had a lovely night out - where we went was obviously a "birthday" restaurant, because three other people had Happy Birthday sung to them by the waiters! David hadn't told them it was my birthday because he thought I would feel embarrassed by the attention, and on balance I think he's right. I think it would be sort of nice but also really embarrassing at the same time, if that makes sense!

I've just spoken to my grandson on the phone, he's so cute. He starts in the nursery at his local school tomorrow, and will be going five mornings a week. I think he'll really enjoy it - can't wait to ring tomorow and find out how it went.

Oh well, best be getting on with all the work I didn't do yesterday!
