Hello. Im 17 and currently studying Grade 5 piano and hope to take the exam in June. Just before christmas i started to teach an 11 year old that i knew all ready from the village where i live. She is only just a beginner, Im enjoying teaching and find it quite rewarding. The girls mum knows an english teacher from the local high school and was chatting to her about piano lessons as the teacher knew the girl i teach had been interested in having lessons through the school but the teacher at the school had been to busy with the more advanced learners to start with all new beginners. I hope this isnt sounding all confusing! So the mum said to the teacher oh yes shes having private lessons with someone in the village now and is getting on really well, so the teacher said that if i was interested she would be very keen to speak to me as there were a few children in year 7 who are eager to start learning the piano but can't find a private teacher. Anyway i was just wondering if there were any rules, restrictions etc in private teaching. I wouldnt be advertising or anything and they have only heard of me through word of mouth. The teacher knows i am only at grade 5 level myself at the moment and would only be able to teach below what i know. I just wasnt sure how to go about these things so any advice would be really grateful. Thankyou smile.gif

No restrictions whatsoever, but you won't be able to enter for AB exams until you are 18. I'd advise to be honest about the standard you play to, and expain this might limit things in the future. Enjoy smile.gif I started teaching when I was around your age and really enjoy it!

You should let the tax office know and will have to fill in a self assessment return even if you are not earning enough to pay tax.
