Hi there,

I'm a student currently studying in Cyprus, its my final year of school and im preparing to take the DipABRSM sometime in May, well im TRYING to prepare to take it in May.

Trouble is I've only started working on my Viva Voce now, and im finding it difficult to find information for the pieces I've chosen. I find the internet utterly useless, and there are no libraries here so I have no idea where to get any of my information.

I'm pretty stuck and wondering if I should wait another year to take it because I'll be going to the UK in September for studies, so it might be easier for me to find what i need, but I'm not sure because I dont know if I'll have the time.

Those of you who have taken the Dip, whether sax or another instrument, what do you think and where did you find all your information from?

What are your specific pieces? That might help people to give more detailed help.

A good resource is http://www.naxos.com, search for your pieces: they have sleeve notes for every CD that they make on the website which should give you a start. If you have access to Grove in a library try looking up the composers in there too just to read about them. Then, of course, there's the ever faithful google, but you do have to be more careful about the reliability of the sources you get.

Have you written programme notes yet? If not have a look at the AB's guide to writing programme notes too.

Good luck biggrin.gif

Thanks alot, i'll check that out.

Well, the pieces im doing are : Canzontta - Gabriel Pierne
Light of Sothis - Amy Quate
Sonata for alto sax and piano - Phil Woods

and another one..the one with 5 stories.. i 4got the name and composer because my teacher has the piano book and theres nothing on the sax music but I don;t think I'll have trouble with that one because there's a teacher who plays with me in my school orchestra who has taught it so i can probably find information from him.
