Hi guys - I am planning to take my AB Dip this year. I gave up playing for 15 years after reaching grade 8 standard, and now as an adult learner this is a real personal goal for me. However, I really realise how much I missed out in all those years - in terms of opportunities to perform, participate in masterclasses etc. Does anyone know of any places where you can get feedback on performances like this? (I am going to enter the one organised by katyjay if poss). Thanks very much.

Well, you've mentioned the one I was going to suggest wink.gif

But, seriously, part of the reason I set these concerts up was because I wanted an opportunity to inflict my singing on a captive audience laugh.gif .

There's nothing to stop you doing likewise and setting an event up. Either a concert with others or, as I'm doing on the Tuesday before the Adult Learners' Concert, your own recital. I can help you with advice on that, if you're interested.

Or if that's a bit ambitious, ask a few friends round for an evening of music, drinks and munchies.

Also, you could ask your teacher if you can set up a pupils' event. And also ask your teacher about any masterclass opportunities, and also check on Google.

Another idea to consider, I sing in a local church as the visiting soloist twice a month - might there be one near you that would appreciate a pianist's services?

Then there are music festivals - that might be worth a try.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Cheers

SunshineGirl - I'm assuming you're UK based then!

How about Benslow? http://www.benslow.org/

Courses for adults, sort of friendly masterclass style.

Thank you all for very useful advice so far!! Yes I am UK based and am actually a cellist rather than a pianist. I have already printed a booking form off from the Benslow website (I had never heard of them) as there is a course there I would love to do. It is so exciting to think there are things out there - and you are right katyjay - if there aren't then we can always do our bit to make an opportunity. Anyway thanks again, and I will be on the forum again soon (have just discovered that as well!) (Any other useful ideas that people have will also be gratefully received!)
