I was just wondering if anyone else has a Selmer flute, and how good they are considered to be as compared to other names such as Yamaha? Just curious... cheers!

I know that the Selmer Prelude student models are not that great - better sticking to a Yamaha 211 in my opinion!

Hmmm... thanks for your reply! I have this Selmer, but don't know what model it is, I don't think it's all that great biggrin.gif Still I am soon to go for my Grade 5 and am thinking I might upgrade as soon as I can get some money together. My flute teacher seems to think it's a "good flute", but more than that he's not letting on, a man of few words biggrin.gif

The Selmer Prelude is a Chinese student instrument which has a list price of £225 but is usually available for well below £200. It is not to be compared to the Yam 211 - what would one expect for less than half the price? Selmer certainly did make much better flutes - we had a lovely all silver one in at one time that was a beauty - but all I can find in the present Vincent Bach catalogue, apart from the Prelude, are other "budget" models.

Bear in mind though that Conn-Selmer covers some much better known names as well - Armstrong and Emerson for a start. Vincent Bach are in fact a subsidiary of Conn-Selmer.

All makers change their models from time to time - what you have may well be a model that no longer exists.
