I haven't been playing very long (2 years just about) but I have an audition on my cello (amongst other things), and so I was looking for suggestions based on what you would look for in a cello player?
Thanks,
Alice

A good even tone, good sense of rhythm, intonation that is well-centered (most of the time).
A lot will depend on what you're auditioning for and what standard they are expecting.
ED. Having just read you're signature. Don't wish your age away. In not to many more years you'll want to be winding the clock back the other way

It's my reaudition with the Royal Marines - although I did pass my cello audtion last time (July 2005). It will only be my second instrument and as I've not been playing long they don't expect the Dvorak from memory! I took it up specifically for Marines, so it seems to win me some brownie points

In that case you are already in their "good books". Go and knock their socks off
Good luck!

Can't answer your question, but I wanted to wish you good luck. When is the audition? Let us know what you decide to do, and how it goes.

Thanks guys! It's through the first full week of March, something like the 6th to the 10th I think. I'll keep you posted

That you've got to grade 7 standard in only 2 years is inspirational! Have you ever taken any cello exams? I wonder how I'll get on when I begin.....

Thankyou . I did my grade 5 last summer, that was the last one I did. Since then I've just been working through the grades with my teacher as I'm in my last year at school and I really haven't got time to wait a term at a time to take every exam! Hard work but good fun and very rewarding
