Full Version: Grade 8 Recordings

Schubertiad
As far as i'm aware, the recording which i posted today is the first grade 8 piano piece on YAP and Oddball's recordings site. As i don't know anyone else studying grade 8, it would be very interesting and useful if someone else were to post a recording of one of their grade 8 pieces.
BTW excuse the odd grace note in my version...

Hi Schubertiad

Thanks for putting your recording on the site. I'm listening to it and enjoying it right now smile.gif

Unfortunately, a lot of the people recording on the site aren't at Grade 8 yet. And for a lot of instruments, and singers, the piano arrangement of an orchestral accompaniment is quite often still in copyright even if the original composition isn't any more. This limits what can be put on a public domain site like this.

Of course, it would be great if more people contributed to the site, at whatever level of ability they are.

Cheers

Katyjay

Great playing, Schubertiad! Almost technically flawless, very clear emphasis of the melody and phrasing, and most importantly - full of energy. If you want some hints on polishing this difficult piece to perfection, PM me. biggrin.gif

Planning to send one as soon as I manage to get past the first 4 bars without messing up because the mic is on.. ph34r.gif

Leave the mic recording and try and forget about it, do something else. Do normal practice: scales, a spot of sight reading, occasionally play through the piece. Somewhere in there you'll have a good recording: just remember, it doesn't matter if you get it wrong as you're not setting out to get a recording right first time, just leaving the recording on. Removing the pressure of being concerned about the recording being right first time makes it much easier smile.gif.

I haven't listened to yours yet, will do so now...I'm doing grade 8 and might (just might tongue.gif not certain) post one of my pieces up when I've perfected it (or gotten as close as i can get to that anyway...)

One question: We have to ask permission/can't record pieces from the book right? Becuase its be copyrighted... unsure.gif

Edit: Wow you're recording was fab Scubertiad!! biggrin.gif When are you taking the exam?
hmmmm...I probably won't post one up actually..ph34r.gif

The printed book itself may be copyright, but they don't have the right to performances made from it. As long as the composer and/or arranger died pre-1935, you can record a piece and submit it for the site smile.gif.

But it says under the piece: Copyright by ABRSM...so it doesnt matter that the version has been 'edited' as long as the Composer isnt under copyright anymore?
katyjay
YAP, you mean pre-1935, not post.
YetAnotherPianist
Katyjay: thanks, I've edited my post smile.gif.

Correct: editing affects the printed score. So long as it isn't 'arranged' it's quite alright to perform it subject to the 1935 rule.

ahhh..That's probably where i got confused! The whole arranging/edited version thing..ph34r.gif..thanlks for clearing that up YAP!

Well...I've recorded a notorious Grade 8 piece which is on the Trinity board once. I better start going back to that, I'm out of practise! (If you care to know what it is, it's Rachmaninov's Prelude in C# minor Op.3 No.2)

Schubertiad your Schumann was gobsmacking! ohmy.gif
