It was just a mouse click away.

And it just sort of happened.

So in May I'm off the the Musikverein. Vienna in May should be really nice. biggrin.gif

OK, so now I'm just a teensy bit jealous: I entered grade 6, you get to go to Vienna laugh.gif.

Do enjoy yourself though smile.gif.

Have a good time! What are you going to hear, and who's playing?

If your packed holiday schedule allows, see if you can get along to the Staatsoper as well (depending of course on what's on whilst you're away). There are loads of standing places which go on sale 80 minutes before curtain up; the ones directly underneath the Imperial box are about 2.50 Euros, and give a fabulous view on the stage, but if you're on a budget, there are standing places for E1.50 up in the gods.

I'm hoping to go to Vienna this year, as well. I want to join in the celebrations for Mozart's 250th birthday. There will be loads of music to hear, but I can't go until later in the year as I am not allowed to fly just yet.

Last time I was there I went to the volksoper. You can normally get tickets quite easily - we booked up only two days in advance of the performance. Saw Hansel & Gretel and it was absolutely wonderful - a marvellous atmosphere.

Hope you enjoy yourself as much as I did Janexxx. smile.gif

Make sure you spend an afternoon in the Café Central, have a "lange brauner" (~= latté) and some torte: very atmospheric and redolent of the great days of Alt-Wien.

Enjoy! biggrin.gif

Wow, have a great time; and make sure that you don't accidentally enter yourself for any exams at the same time ohmy.gif laugh.gif.

Do give us details of who (if we can't guess wink.gif) and what you're going to see/hear smile.gif.

Of course. The first time I went to Vienna it was a week before my AA302 exam. A trip to the seccession building and an afternoon in the company of the Beethoven Frieze was a great help in my exam, there was a question about Beethoven's 9th biggrin.gif

I got into the Musikverein last Summer. We saw the Vienna Mozart Orchestra.

And then we saw the Vienna Phil in the Salzburg Festival Hall with Ricardo Mutti. cool.gif

Hope you enjoy Vienna as much as I did. smile.gif

I love the arrogance of the Vienna Phil strings......the oboe has to tune to the concert masters A

I've just accidentally booked myself a short holiday in Paris at the beginning of April! I've never been to Paris before (except Disney, which can't really be classed as Paris!).

Any recommendations for places to see that are not on the normal tourist itinerary? Music based ideas would be really welcome. smile.gif
