Can anyone tell me if there is a book giving the answers to the Grade 5 theory Music Theory in Practice by Eric Taylor?

I am an adult learner who took Grade 1 at age 7 and then there was a huge gap of 40 odd years when I decided to take Grade 2. I have now passed Grade 5 practical so am now looking at doing Grade 5 theory. I would be grateful for any tips that anyone can give on studying this. I have got as far as Exercise 29. I would like to see the answers so that I can check them and examine where I have gone wrong and spend more time on that particular subject.

I'm afraid I don't know of any answer books for the Eric Taylor theory books, but you might get more help if you post this on the General Music Forum.

I don't believe there is an answer book for it. If you use the search function, there have been lots of 'which G5 theory book should I get' topics, some of which had answers.

Have you worked through G3 and 4? Often there is more explanation in those books - anything that recurs it is presumed you know about. Apart from that, the Pink book (and the blue one for orchestral instrument questions) are useful aids.

I also suggest getting lots of past papers and finding someone to mark them - invaluable preparation as they are all in the same format, and you can see at a glance which areas need work.

Thank you. I have the pink book that I read first. I have not worked through G3 and G4. Did purchase an old exam paper for G5 but thought I would wait until completing the exercises before having a go at that one. May be I could give the completed exercises to my choir master or my violin teacher and they could check that I am on the right track.

Thank you. I will wait until the weekend and then try the general music forum. I suppose it is left that your teacher will mark it for you but I am studying the theory myself as my piano teacher does not do G5 theory.

PM me with your answers if you like and I'll check them for you.

Theory time (one book per grade) has the answers in it, so you might find that helpful. I don't use it because I don't like children to have the temptation, but in your situation it would be very useful. Don't forget to post any questions you need help with or PM me and I'll help if I can! dry.gif Good luck!
