Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum. smile.gif
I'm currently learning piano in Singapore and pursuing LTCL. Am planning to do LRSM then FRSM in the future. May I know after FRSM, what other courses is available?

If you already have a FTCL/FRSM, mind to share what your plan is? Eg. what path will you take or what course will you continue from there?

Your sharing is much appreciated smile.gif Thank u.

Hey, welcome!
I'm not quite there yet, but thinking along similar lines myself...

I've already started a Master of Arts degree in Music (essentially in musical research) to broaden my horizons a bit away from "just" performance. This is done via the Open University in the UK and takes the form of distance learning via the Internet. It's early days for me on it though, so I can't comment fully on it yet... smile.gif

I have been looking - as is my wont - at the part-time joint MMus in performance which is given by the Royal Holloway College and The Royal College of Music in London. Not sure how this would pan out, but I like the look of the structure of the course.

Either of these postgraduate degrees could lead onto doctoral research, but that thought is a long way off for me..

I think though, essentially, once you have reached FRSM/Fxxx level, you are at a stage where further diploma study is not meaningful to grow as a performer. Perhaps it's time to pursue a concert career? To take part in high quality competitions?

In terms of continuing your education, you could always go to any workshops that composers, orchestras, professionals sometimes hold. You can also try your hand at all the other music in your instruments' repertoire that is not necessarily on the diploma syllabuses and go to different professional teachers to hear what they have to say about the pieces.

I am lucky because here at my school of music I have lots of awesome teachers - Larry Sitsky, Geoffrey Lancaster, Olle Palmqvist, Miroslav Bukovsky... and I am not too far from Sydney or Melbourne, where all the big professionals have concerts and workshops. There are also big festivals that I can see as well.

I decided I wanted to make a CD - and work on my composing and arranging, so got my act together and received two grants of several thousands to pay for the CD of my own original jazz compositions. You could also to that - even if it's only for your own private market, not public market!! Even if you don't hire a professional you could always buy a mini-disk and record yourself on a nice grand somewhere - and then burn it to CD for your friends.

You could also always take up jazz.... smile.gif Thats what I did. ha ha...

Anyways, hope that's given you a few ideas.

Hi, i'm actually not answering your Qn, but would like to know more people in Singapore of diploma level & above, as I think it would be great to help each other in learning music. Hope you don't mind being friends with me. I tried to send u a personal message, but your inbox is full.

I just did my DipABRSM last year in piano & got a high pass in it. Might be doing LRSM this Sept, but I feel so lazy in doing an exam so soon, so might push to next April. Why don't u do LRSM ? It's more recognised in Singapore & gives u higher status. U can reply me by sending me a personal message. Thanks, hope to see your reply soon.
