Well, after 30 odd years of wanting to play the clarinet, and now having a 10 year old daughter who's been learning it for just over 2 years and is preparing for grade 4, I clubbed together my birthday money and bought a cheapie Chinese clarinet from ebay - good enough for me to start on!

Now I've found a BMus student at the local University who is prepared to take me on, and I start with a 20 min lesson tomorrow night.

Should be OK with the basics of music, as learnt piano up to grade 5 standard at school (never took the exam - boys got in the way!), but blowing and getting a decent sound out is a bit of a problem at the moment!

I'll let you know how it pans out! unsure.gif

Fantastic! I'm sure you'll love it.

My dad used the play the clarinet when he was younger, but for a range of reasons I won't bore you with, he stopped. I bought him one for his birthday this august. He's 68. He's relearning and he absolutely loves it. Never too old, I say!

Well it went OK!

My teacher is very nice and I think I will get on well with her.

She has already increased my confidence by telling me that I was "not as much of a beginner as I thought I was" and that obviously the piano and choir whilst at school was a big help with already knowing how to read music, phrasing, tempo etc.

So now I have a few pieces and two scales to practise before next week - but I'm pleased that I have!
